{"id":"CVE-2026-82210","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Apache bRPC: Remote denial of service (crash) via malformed stream feedback frames","description":"Enforceable assertion in the streaming feature of Apache bRPC (version < 1.18.0) on all platforms allows a remote attacker to crash the server process by sending a malformed stream feedback frame.\n\nRoot Cause:\nWhen handling FRAME_TYPE_FEEDBACK frames, bRPC calls Stream::SetRemoteConsumed() which contains CHECK(_cur_buf_size > 0) and unconditionally asserts CHECK(buf.IsEmpty()) on the frame payload. A feedback frame that carries an unexpected payload, or a feedback frame received on a stream where flow control is disabled (cur_buf_size == 0), reaches these assertions. On failure, CHECK failures abort the process, allowing an unauthenticated single client (once a stream is established) to terminate the server and cause a denial of service.\n\nAffected Scenarios:\nUse bRPC server with the streaming control feature (Stream API) served from untrusted network.\n\nHow to Fix:\n1. Upgrade bRPC to version 1.18.0, which fixes this issue.\n2. Apply this patch: https://github.com/apache/brpc/pull/3494 \n\nThe fix rejects malformed feedback frames with EPROTO and closes only the affected stream instead of crashing the whole process, and it bounds buffer shrinking so cur_buf_size never drops to 0 while flow control is enabled.","publishedAt":"2026-10-21T12:01:31.264Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-30T14:25:54.253Z","severity":{"score":7.5,"label":"High","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","source":"CISA-ADP"},"assigner":"apache","products":["Apache Software Foundation Apache bRPC"],"affected":[{"vendor":"Apache Software Foundation","product":"Apache bRPC","packageName":"apache/brpc","packageURL":"pkg:github/apache/brpc","defaultStatus":"unaffected","versions":[{"version":"0","status":"affected","lessThan":"1.18.0","versionType":"semver"}],"collectionURL":"https://github.com"}],"references":["https://lists.apache.org/thread/2pf15ojj0vr7rtx95677kgtl1mx3gdgb"],"weaknesses":["CWE-617"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-30T14:38:06.611Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/82xxx/CVE-2026-82210.json","commit":"d88c0a1c0d885dc592725fb56de7f3fed94f6783","baselineCommit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-82210","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-10-21T12:01:31.264Z","dateUpdated":"2026-10-30T14:25:54.253Z","assignerShortName":"apache","assignerOrgId":"f0158376-9dc2-43b6-827c-5f631a4d8d09","dateReserved":"2026-08-28T08:27:23.061Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Apache bRPC: Remote denial of service (crash) via malformed stream feedback frames","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Enforceable assertion in the streaming feature of Apache bRPC (version < 1.18.0) on all platforms allows a remote attacker to crash the server process by sending a malformed stream feedback frame.\n\nRoot Cause:\nWhen handling FRAME_TYPE_FEEDBACK frames, bRPC calls Stream::SetRemoteConsumed() which contains CHECK(_cur_buf_size > 0) and unconditionally asserts CHECK(buf.IsEmpty()) on the frame payload.
