The value is a u16 used as the\ni2c_master_recv() count into a 261-byte on-stack buffer: a malicious,\ncounterfeit or malfunctioning controller (or an i2c bus interposer) can\ndrive it far past the buffer for a stack out-of-bounds write that\nclobbers the canary and return address, or below the minimum frame size\n(directly, or by truncating the computed sum) so the header/LRC strip\nand the next length read run past a short receive. Reject a length\noutside [FDP_NCI_I2C_MIN_PAYLOAD, FDP_NCI_I2C_MAX_PAYLOAD], as a\ncorrupted packet already is, and force resynchronization.\n\nThe same loop allocates one data skb per iteration and assumes a length\npacket followed by a data packet; a device that sends two data packets\nin one call leaks the first skb when the second allocation overwrites\nit. Free a previously allocated skb before allocating the next.","publishedAt":"2026-09-04T15:13:16.241Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-19T08:43:55.498Z","severity":null,"assigner":"Linux","products":["Linux Linux"],"affected":[{"vendor":"Linux","product":"Linux","defaultStatus":"unaffected","versions":[{"version":"a06347c04c13e380afce0c9816df51f00b83faf1","status":"affected","lessThan":"d9498ab9a78cb63d78dbe4f221d8cc6c91f285ee","versionType":"git"},{"version":"a06347c04c13e380afce0c9816df51f00b83faf1","status":"affected","lessThan":"1fc32327b927a6e2cde086f82575c29880844228","versionType":"git"},{"version":"a06347c04c13e380afce0c9816df51f00b83faf1","status":"affected","lessThan":"8d2c243b79854628ff076c38748c020042f02f57","versionType":"git"},{"version":"a06347c04c13e380afce0c9816df51f00b83faf1","status":"affected","lessThan":"fc3c2bd5b1ec6c7cbc8a50e32d9bcec114f25463","versionType":"git"},{"version":"a06347c04c13e380afce0c9816df51f00b83faf1","status":"affected","lessThan":"0d723090645b82c1cb27cfd7ebf81f0e7c96bcae","versionType":"git"},{"version":"a06347c04c13e380afce0c9816df51f00b83faf1","status":"affected","lessThan":"db7e464b350969c6ea8340de00d9796e5fd5123b","versionType":"git"},{"version":"a06347c04c13e380afce0c9816df51f00b83faf1","status":"affected","lessThan":"e5eec121f2c3bc4c7022613bedd9121a8aa4c949","versionType":"git"},{"version":"a06347c04c13e380afce0c9816df51f00b83faf1","status":"affected","lessThan":"1aa3fc769b0c45bd19f8dab1697084c2b3f6d706","versionType":"git"},{"version":"a06347c04c13e380afce0c9816df51f00b83faf1","status":"affected","lessThan":"7ad21dcfeb5181af0c3ee2608808c0c0a5283aa1","versionType":"git"}],"repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["drivers/nfc/fdp/i2c.c"]},{"vendor":"Linux","product":"Linux","defaultStatus":"affected","versions":[{"version":"4.4","status":"affected"},{"version":"0","status":"unaffected","lessThan":"4.4","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.10.267","status":"unaffected","lessThanOrEqual":"5.10.*","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.15.218","status":"unaffected","lessThanOrEqual":"5.15.*","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.1.185","status":"unaffected","lessThanOrEqual":"6.1.*","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.6.154","status":"unaffected","lessThanOrEqual":"6.6.*","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.12.106","status":"unaffected","lessThanOrEqual":"6.12.*","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.18.47","status":"unaffected","lessThanOrEqual":"6.18.*","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"7.1.11","status":"unaffected","lessThanOrEqual":"7.1.*","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"7.2.1","status":"unaffected","lessThanOrEqual":"7.2.*","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"7.3","status":"unaffected","lessThanOrEqual":"*","versionType":"original_commit_for_fix"}],"repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["drivers/nfc/fdp/i2c.c"]}],"references":["https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/d9498ab9a78cb63d78dbe4f221d8cc6c91f285ee","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/1fc32327b927a6e2cde086f82575c29880844228","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/8d2c243b79854628ff076c38748c020042f02f57","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/fc3c2bd5b1ec6c7cbc8a50e32d9bcec114f25463","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/0d723090645b82c1cb27cfd7ebf81f0e7c96bcae","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/db7e464b350969c6ea8340de00d9796e5fd5123b","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/e5eec121f2c3bc4c7022613bedd9121a8aa4c949","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/1aa3fc769b0c45bd19f8dab1697084c2b3f6d706","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/7ad21dcfeb5181af0c3ee2608808c0c0a5283aa1"],"weaknesses":[],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:13:07.220Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/80xxx/CVE-2026-80802.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-80802","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-09-04T15:13:16.241Z","dateUpdated":"2026-10-19T08:43:55.498Z","assignerShortName":"Linux","assignerOrgId":"416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67","dateReserved":"2026-08-26T14:34:25.794Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"nfc: fdp: bound the device-reported read length and fix an skb leak","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nnfc: fdp: bound the device-reported read length and fix an skb leak\n\nfdp_nci_i2c_read() takes the next packet length from two device-supplied\nbytes and never validates it.
