no network handler parses $LogFile.\nAC:L - The attacker fully controls the on-disk $LogFile UpdateMappingPairs record and embedded non-resident mapping-pairs bytes; omitting the 0x00 terminator deterministically drives the unbounded parser past the attribute buffer on the first replay mount with no race.\nPR:N - The attacker needs no account or privilege on the victim; supplying a malicious NTFS image on USB/removable media, a disk image, or shared storage is sufficient for udisks2/systemd automount or an administrator mount to reach journal replay.\nUI:N - Desktop/kiosk/shared-workstation automounters mount attacker-supplied NTFS media and run $LogFile replay without the user opening files or running commands; insertion of the crafted volume is sufficient to trigger parsing on mount.\nS:U - Slab out-of-bounds reads and resulting mount-time kernel faults stay within the host kernel security authority; no VM escape, IOMMU bypass, or cross-boundary scope change.\nC:H - run_get_highest_vcn() scans mapping pairs with no length bound, performing slab out-of-bounds byte reads via run_unpack_s64(); kernel guidance treats heap out-of-bounds reads as enabling broad adjacent-slab information disclosure.\nI:H - Parsed run lengths and offsets come from attacker-chosen and out-of-bounds heap bytes and, if the loop terminates, are written into attr->nres.evcn during log replay, corrupting non-resident extent metadata and redirecting later replayed cluster I/O.\nA:H - The demonstrated KASAN slab-out-of-bounds read in the mount task can fault into unmapped adjacent memory, producing a kernel oops/panic and denying service until reboot."}]}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"Linux","orgId":"416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67","dateUpdated":"2026-08-17T05:44:42.810Z"},"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.1.175","versionEndExcluding":"6.1.178"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.6.140","versionEndExcluding":"6.6.145"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.12.86","versionEndExcluding":"6.12.97"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.18.27","versionEndExcluding":"6.18.40"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"7.1","versionEndExcluding":"7.1.5"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"7.1","versionEndExcluding":"7.2"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.15.209"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"7.0.4"}]}]}],"x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}},"adp":[{"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment","metrics":[{"other":{"type":"ssvc","content":{"id":"CVE-2026-72478","role":"CISA Coordinator","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"total"}],"version":"2.0.3","timestamp":"2026-10-16T18:50:38.730753Z"}}}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"CISA-ADP","orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","dateUpdated":"2026-10-16T18:55:26.034Z"}}]}}}
