{"id":"CVE-2026-57441","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"MCPVault: PathFilter restricted-directory deny-list bypass via case and trailing dot/space equivalence","description":"MCPVault is a lightweight Model Context Protocol server for safe access to files in an Obsidian vault. Prior to 0.11.4, PathFilter in src/pathfilter.ts compiles restricted-directory patterns case-sensitively and compares paths without canonicalizing filesystem-equivalent segment names. On case-insensitive macOS and Windows filesystems, case variants of .git, .obsidian, or node_modules pass both isAllowed() and isAllowedForListing() even though the operating system opens the restricted directory, and Windows trailing dots or spaces provide the same bypass. An attacker who influences a path selected by an AI agent can use the bypass in read, write, move, search, or listing operations to expose or modify sensitive repository and Obsidian metadata. Vault-root .. containment is not affected. This issue is fixed in version 0.11.4.","publishedAt":"2026-09-15T17:49:10.118Z","updatedAt":"2026-09-15T19:43:58.303Z","severity":{"score":8.4,"label":"High","version":"4.0","vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:H/VI:H/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","source":"GitHub_M"},"assigner":"GitHub_M","products":["bitbonsai mcpvault"],"affected":[{"vendor":"bitbonsai","product":"mcpvault","versions":[{"version":"< 0.11.4","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/bitbonsai/mcpvault/security/advisories/GHSA-j99q-93c9-h869","https://github.com/bitbonsai/mcpvault/commit/0adb43901e1a08e85e14b42a8df2442fabc0b64a","https://github.com/bitbonsai/mcpvault/commit/b9ea91a1c6d6adfec3e9e0483d9d79669e927fa8"],"weaknesses":["CWE-41","CWE-178"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:12:24.861Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/57xxx/CVE-2026-57441.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-57441","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-09-15T17:49:10.118Z","dateUpdated":"2026-09-15T19:43:58.303Z","assignerShortName":"GitHub_M","assignerOrgId":"a0819718-46f1-4df5-94e2-005712e83aaa","dateReserved":"2026-06-24T13:21:20.729Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"MCPVault: PathFilter restricted-directory deny-list bypass via case and trailing dot/space equivalence","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"MCPVault is a lightweight Model Context Protocol server for safe access to files in an Obsidian vault.
