{"id":"CVE-2026-57224","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Suricata dhcp: unbounded transactions in unidirectional traffic can lead to resource exhaustion","description":"Suricata is a network Intrusion Detection System, Intrusion Prevention System and Network Security Monitoring engine. From 8.0.0 until 8.0.6, the DHCP parser in rust/src/dhcp/dhcp.rs creates stateless transactions without recording their packet direction with AppLayerTxData::for_direction(), so a sensor that observes only one direction cannot mark the unseen direction inspected or free completed transactions. The RDP parser in rust/src/rdp/rdp.rs has the same direction-state defect. The per-flow transaction list can grow without bound and cleanup repeatedly scans it, causing increasing CPU and memory consumption and eventual denial of service. This issue is fixed in version 8.0.6.","publishedAt":"2026-09-18T20:08:46.402Z","updatedAt":"2026-09-18T20:22:23.977Z","severity":{"score":6.5,"label":"Medium","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","source":"GitHub_M"},"assigner":"GitHub_M","products":["OISF suricata"],"affected":[{"vendor":"OISF","product":"suricata","versions":[{"version":">= 8.0.0, < 8.0.6","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/OISF/suricata/security/advisories/GHSA-m2vc-g65c-ph7m","https://github.com/OISF/suricata/pull/15740","https://github.com/OISF/suricata/commit/3f86c56c800392ede5cfaf7a944a431fd8445c55","https://github.com/OISF/suricata/commit/5af13e3eb06be0387da8703b611c5ce932245c59","https://github.com/OISF/suricata/commit/bac8a69ca48c14582d39a244a87edad44751ebe1","https://github.com/OISF/suricata/commit/ef035c7603293a10c5ad087e3d20b05f75236144","https://github.com/OISF/suricata/releases/tag/suricata-8.0.6","https://redmine.openinfosecfoundation.org/issues/8621"],"weaknesses":["CWE-400","CWE-770"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:12:24.861Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/57xxx/CVE-2026-57224.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-57224","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-09-18T20:08:46.402Z","dateUpdated":"2026-09-18T20:22:23.977Z","assignerShortName":"GitHub_M","assignerOrgId":"a0819718-46f1-4df5-94e2-005712e83aaa","dateReserved":"2026-06-24T02:21:33.811Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Suricata dhcp: unbounded transactions in unidirectional traffic can lead to resource exhaustion","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Suricata is a network Intrusion Detection System, Intrusion Prevention System and Network Security Monitoring engine.
