{"id":"CVE-2026-54426","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Apache bRPC: Stack Exhaustion via Unbounded Recursion in Redis Reply Parser","description":"Uncontrolled recursion in the Redis reply parser in Apache bRPC < 1.18.0 allows a remote Redis server peer to crash a bRPC Redis client process by returning a deeply nested RESP array reply. The parser recursed once for each nested array level without enforcing a depth limit. The fix adds a configurable Redis reply depth limit with default value 128 and rejects replies exceeding that limit. \n\nAffected Scenarios:\nApplications using bRPC as a Redis client with ChannelOptions.protocol=\"redis\" and receiving replies from an untrusted or faulty Redis server peer.\n\nHow to Fix:\n1. Upgrade Apache bRPC to 1.18.0.\n2. Apply the patch from PR https://github.com/apache/brpc/pull/3344 .\n\nNote:\nAfter applying the fix, Redis replies with array nesting deeper than redis_max_reply_depth are rejected.","publishedAt":"2026-10-21T11:32:19.591Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-30T13:46:51.555Z","severity":{"score":7.5,"label":"High","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","source":"CISA-ADP"},"assigner":"apache","products":["Apache Software Foundation Apache bRPC"],"affected":[{"vendor":"Apache Software Foundation","product":"Apache bRPC","packageName":"apache/brpc","packageURL":"pkg:github/apache/brpc","defaultStatus":"unaffected","versions":[{"version":"0","status":"affected","lessThan":"1.18.0","versionType":"semver"}],"collectionURL":"https://github.com"}],"references":["https://lists.apache.org/thread/2pf15ojj0vr7rtx95677kgtl1mx3gdgb"],"weaknesses":["CWE-674"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-30T13:52:06.382Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/54xxx/CVE-2026-54426.json","commit":"e74ba4de436cc74af4cc74789f6d02f8edb40c54","baselineCommit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-54426","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-10-21T11:32:19.591Z","dateUpdated":"2026-10-30T13:46:51.555Z","assignerShortName":"apache","assignerOrgId":"f0158376-9dc2-43b6-827c-5f631a4d8d09","dateReserved":"2026-06-14T07:05:33.297Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Apache bRPC: Stack Exhaustion via Unbounded Recursion in Redis Reply Parser","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Uncontrolled recursion in the Redis reply parser in Apache bRPC < 1.18.0 allows a remote Redis server peer to crash a bRPC Redis client process by returning a deeply nested RESP array reply.
