{"id":"CVE-2026-53124","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"ublk: reset per-IO canceled flag on each fetch","description":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nublk: reset per-IO canceled flag on each fetch\n\nIf a ublk server starts recovering devices but dies before issuing fetch\ncommands for all IOs, cancellation of the fetch commands that were\nsuccessfully issued may never complete. This is because the per-IO\ncanceled flag can remain set even after the fetch for that IO has been\nsubmitted - the per-IO canceled flags for all IOs in a queue are reset\ntogether only once all IOs for that queue have been fetched. So if a\nnonempty proper subset of the IOs for a queue are fetched when the ublk\nserver dies, the IOs in that subset will never successfully be canceled,\nas their canceled flags remain set, and this prevents ublk_cancel_cmd\nfrom actually calling io_uring_cmd_done on the commands, despite the\nfact that they are outstanding.\n\nFix this by resetting the per-IO cancel flags immediately when each IO\nis fetched instead of waiting for all IOs for the queue (which may never\nhappen).","publishedAt":"2026-06-24T16:30:53.268Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-15T10:07:41.921Z","severity":null,"assigner":"Linux","products":["Linux Linux"],"affected":[{"vendor":"Linux","product":"Linux","defaultStatus":"unaffected","versions":[{"version":"728cbac5fe219d3b8a21a0688a08f2b7f8aeda2b","status":"affected","lessThan":"de05e37d02f3f33ebca4967164e54f5fea809d86","versionType":"git"},{"version":"728cbac5fe219d3b8a21a0688a08f2b7f8aeda2b","status":"affected","lessThan":"63335e5a67d89bb7cb9b023bbb3785896587a648","versionType":"git"},{"version":"728cbac5fe219d3b8a21a0688a08f2b7f8aeda2b","status":"affected","lessThan":"0842186d2c4e67d2f8c8c2d1d779e8acffd41b5b","versionType":"git"},{"version":"42ea64e01c96e594fb4f80c54dfe4f934d008a6e","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"6.14.6","status":"affected","lessThan":"6.15","versionType":"semver"}],"repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["drivers/block/ublk_drv.c"]},{"vendor":"Linux","product":"Linux","defaultStatus":"affected","versions":[{"version":"6.15","status":"affected"},{"version":"0","status":"unaffected","lessThan":"6.15","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.18.57","status":"unaffected","lessThanOrEqual":"6.18.*","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"7.0.10","status":"unaffected","lessThanOrEqual":"7.0.*","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"7.1","status":"unaffected","lessThanOrEqual":"*","versionType":"original_commit_for_fix"}],"repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["drivers/block/ublk_drv.c"]}],"references":["https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/de05e37d02f3f33ebca4967164e54f5fea809d86","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/63335e5a67d89bb7cb9b023bbb3785896587a648","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/0842186d2c4e67d2f8c8c2d1d779e8acffd41b5b"],"weaknesses":[],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:12:16.098Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/53xxx/CVE-2026-53124.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-53124","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-06-24T16:30:53.268Z","dateUpdated":"2026-10-15T10:07:41.921Z","assignerShortName":"Linux","assignerOrgId":"416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67","dateReserved":"2026-06-09T07:44:35.386Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"ublk: reset per-IO canceled flag on each fetch","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nublk: reset per-IO canceled flag on each fetch\n\nIf a ublk server starts recovering devices but dies before issuing fetch\ncommands for all IOs, cancellation of the fetch commands that were\nsuccessfully issued may never complete.
