{"id":"CVE-2026-49253","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"electerm: Path Traversal in Zmodem and Trzsz Download Filename Handling","description":"electerm is an open-sourced terminal/ssh/sftp/telnet/serialport/RDP/VNC/Spice/ftp client. Prior to 3.11.11, electerm uses remote-supplied filenames directly with path.join() while receiving Zmodem and Trzsz transfers. In src/app/server/zmodem.js, prepareReceiveFile() joins the filename to the user-selected save path, and in src/app/server/trzsz.js, getUniqueFilePath(), the openSaveFile() callback, and the savedFilePaths mapping construct destinations without sanitization. A malicious SSH server or remote shell can provide a filename containing traversal components such as ../escaped.txt or ../../.bashrc. When the victim accepts the transfer and selects a download directory, electerm can write outside that directory and overwrite files accessible to the desktop user, potentially changing sensitive configuration or impairing availability. This issue is fixed in version 3.11.11.","publishedAt":"2026-08-19T14:31:55.683Z","updatedAt":"2026-08-21T19:31:45.169Z","severity":{"score":7.1,"label":"High","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:L","source":"GitHub_M"},"assigner":"GitHub_M","products":["electerm electerm"],"affected":[{"vendor":"electerm","product":"electerm","versions":[{"version":"< 3.11.11","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/electerm/electerm/security/advisories/GHSA-38j7-23hf-9mhc","https://github.com/electerm/electerm/commit/fde153d677a170c5816368f6586647f3af4ef284","https://github.com/electerm/electerm/releases/tag/v3.11.11"],"weaknesses":["CWE-22"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:12:07.131Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/49xxx/CVE-2026-49253.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-49253","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-08-19T14:31:55.683Z","dateUpdated":"2026-08-21T19:31:45.169Z","assignerShortName":"GitHub_M","assignerOrgId":"a0819718-46f1-4df5-94e2-005712e83aaa","dateReserved":"2026-05-28T14:33:01.179Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"electerm: Path Traversal in Zmodem and Trzsz Download Filename Handling","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"electerm is an open-sourced terminal/ssh/sftp/telnet/serialport/RDP/VNC/Spice/ftp client.
