{"id":"CVE-2026-48716","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"nanobot: Path traversal via unsanitized WhatsApp document fileName enables arbitrary file write","description":"nanobot is a personal AI assistant. In versions 0.1.5.post3 and prior, the WhatsApp bridge in bridge/src/whatsapp.ts constructs a filesystem path using the fileName field from an incoming WhatsApp document message without sanitization. The WhatsApp bridge downloads media attachments and writes them to disk using a filename derived from the sender's message via documentMessage.fileName, which is concatenated with a prefix and its raw value is passed directly to path.join(mediaDir, outFilename). Node.js path.join resolves .. components, allowing an attacker to escape the intended media/ directory by sending a document with a crafted fileName such as ../../../.ssh/authorized_keys. Because the attacker also controls the file content (the downloaded buffer), this is a write-anywhere primitive — both path and content are attacker-controlled. A fix for this issue is planned for version 0.1.5.post4.","publishedAt":"2026-06-18T18:46:28.599Z","updatedAt":"2026-06-22T15:41:03.264Z","severity":{"score":8.7,"label":"High","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:H/A:H","source":"GitHub_M"},"assigner":"GitHub_M","products":["HKUDS nanobot"],"affected":[{"vendor":"HKUDS","product":"nanobot","versions":[{"version":"<= 0.1.5.post3","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/HKUDS/nanobot/security/advisories/GHSA-3f63-vcp3-hvqr"],"weaknesses":["CWE-22"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:12:07.131Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/48xxx/CVE-2026-48716.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-48716","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-06-18T18:46:28.599Z","dateUpdated":"2026-06-22T15:41:03.264Z","assignerShortName":"GitHub_M","assignerOrgId":"a0819718-46f1-4df5-94e2-005712e83aaa","dateReserved":"2026-05-22T18:47:27.755Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"nanobot: Path traversal via unsanitized WhatsApp document fileName enables arbitrary file write","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"nanobot is a personal AI assistant.
