{"id":"CVE-2026-48170","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"scimPatch vulnerable to prototype pollution via unfiltered keys in patch","description":"`scim-patch`, a library to perform SCIM patch, prior to version 0.9.1 performs prototype pollution when applying a SCIM PATCH operation whose `value` object contains a key like `\"__proto__.someProp\"`. After one such patch,\n`Object.prototype.someProp` is set process-wide, affecting every plain object in the Node process. Any service that calls `scimPatch()` on attacker-controlled JSON (i.e. any SCIM endpoint accepting `PATCH` from an external IdP) is exploitable on a stock Node runtime. Version 0.9.1 contains a patch. A workaround is available. Calling `Object.freeze(Object.prototype)` (and the same on `Array.prototype`, `Function.prototype`) at process startup neutralizes this class of bug — assignment to a frozen prototype becomes a silent no-op in sloppy mode or a `TypeError` in strict mode. Node's `--frozen-intrinsics` flag does this for built-ins automatically.","publishedAt":"2026-08-07T21:26:54.941Z","updatedAt":"2026-08-10T14:06:00.075Z","severity":{"score":9.1,"label":"Critical","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:H/A:L","source":"GitHub_M"},"assigner":"GitHub_M","products":["thomaspoignant scim-patch"],"affected":[{"vendor":"thomaspoignant","product":"scim-patch","versions":[{"version":"< 0.9.1","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/thomaspoignant/scim-patch/security/advisories/GHSA-9m6g-wc8r-q59c","https://github.com/thomaspoignant/scim-patch/commit/260f9cd2ac5ceac3976978850bb47dcb391720f6"],"weaknesses":["CWE-1321"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:12:07.131Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/48xxx/CVE-2026-48170.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-48170","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-08-07T21:26:54.941Z","dateUpdated":"2026-08-10T14:06:00.075Z","assignerShortName":"GitHub_M","assignerOrgId":"a0819718-46f1-4df5-94e2-005712e83aaa","dateReserved":"2026-05-20T23:12:43.033Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"scimPatch vulnerable to prototype pollution via unfiltered keys in patch","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"`scim-patch`, a library to perform SCIM patch, prior to version 0.9.1 performs prototype pollution when applying a SCIM PATCH operation whose `value` object contains a key like `\"__proto__.someProp\"`.
