{"id":"CVE-2026-47714","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"libheif has integer overflow in inline mask size calculation that causes undersized buffer allocation","description":"libheif is a HEIF and AVIF file format decoder and encoder. In versions 1.21.2 and prior, the inline mask parsing code in `libheif/region.cc` contains an integer overflow. Both `width` and `height` are `unsigned int` (32-bit) values parsed from the HEIF file. Their product can exceed `UINT32_MAX`, wrapping to a small value before the division by 8. This causes an undersized buffer allocation, leading to out-of-bounds memory access when the mask data is later interpreted as a `width x height` bitmap. Version 1.22.0 patches the issue.","publishedAt":"2026-07-21T21:04:06.167Z","updatedAt":"2026-07-22T13:37:10.052Z","severity":{"score":6.1,"label":"Medium","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:H","source":"GitHub_M"},"assigner":"GitHub_M","products":["strukturag libheif"],"affected":[{"vendor":"strukturag","product":"libheif","versions":[{"version":"< 1.22.0","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/strukturag/libheif/security/advisories/GHSA-h4wm-6wwf-qvhx"],"weaknesses":["CWE-190"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:12:07.131Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/47xxx/CVE-2026-47714.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-47714","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-07-21T21:04:06.167Z","dateUpdated":"2026-07-22T13:37:10.052Z","assignerShortName":"GitHub_M","assignerOrgId":"a0819718-46f1-4df5-94e2-005712e83aaa","dateReserved":"2026-05-19T21:29:25.482Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"libheif has integer overflow in inline mask size calculation that causes undersized buffer allocation","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"libheif is a HEIF and AVIF file format decoder and encoder.
