{"id":"CVE-2026-47071","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"SOCKS5 TLS upgrade ignores caller timeout in hackney","description":"Uncontrolled Resource Consumption vulnerability in benoitc hackney allows Flooding. The SOCKS5 transport in src/hackney_socks5.erl correctly applies the caller-supplied timeout to the SOCKS5 negotiation phase, but then upgrades the connection to TLS using the two-argument form ssl:connect/2, which defaults to an infinite timeout. The Timeout value is in scope at the call site but is not forwarded. A hostile SOCKS5 proxy that completes the SOCKS5 handshake normally and then goes silent (or sends a partial TLS ServerHello and stalls) will cause the connecting process to block indefinitely, regardless of the connect_timeout or recv_timeout options supplied by the caller.\n\nThis issue affects hackney: from 0.10.0 before 4.0.1.","publishedAt":"2026-05-25T14:00:41.112Z","updatedAt":"2026-05-27T15:40:48.584Z","severity":{"score":8.2,"label":"High","version":"4.0","vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","source":"EEF"},"assigner":"EEF","products":["benoitc hackney"],"affected":[{"vendor":"benoitc","product":"hackney","packageName":"hackney","packageURL":"pkg:hex/hackney","defaultStatus":"unaffected","versions":[{"version":"0.10.0","status":"affected","lessThan":"4.0.1","versionType":"semver"}],"collectionURL":"https://repo.hex.pm","cpes":["cpe:2.3:a:benoitc:hackney:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*"],"modules":["hackney_socks5"],"programFiles":["src/hackney_socks5.erl"],"programRoutines":[{"name":"hackney_socks5:connect/4"}],"repo":"https://github.com/benoitc/hackney"},{"vendor":"benoitc","product":"hackney","packageName":"benoitc/hackney","packageURL":"pkg:github/benoitc/hackney","defaultStatus":"unaffected","versions":[{"version":"34cdbd1d20a282aacc286a89327465a3925b4c5d","status":"affected","lessThan":"5ccdab725c561a6f03d05a51f2d0664f98236dae","versionType":"git"}],"collectionURL":"https://github.com","cpes":["cpe:2.3:a:benoitc:hackney:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*"],"modules":["hackney_socks5"],"programFiles":["src/hackney_socks5.erl"],"programRoutines":[{"name":"hackney_socks5:connect/4"}],"repo":"https://github.com/benoitc/hackney"}],"references":["https://github.com/benoitc/hackney/security/advisories/GHSA-gp9c-pm5m-5cxr","https://cna.erlef.org/cves/CVE-2026-47071.html","https://osv.dev/vulnerability/EEF-CVE-2026-47071","https://github.com/benoitc/hackney/commit/5ccdab725c561a6f03d05a51f2d0664f98236dae"],"weaknesses":["CWE-400"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:12:07.131Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/47xxx/CVE-2026-47071.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-47071","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-05-25T14:00:41.112Z","dateUpdated":"2026-05-27T15:40:48.584Z","assignerShortName":"EEF","assignerOrgId":"6b3ad84c-e1a6-4bf7-a703-f496b71e49db","dateReserved":"2026-05-18T17:28:08.322Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"SOCKS5 TLS upgrade ignores caller timeout in hackney","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Uncontrolled Resource Consumption vulnerability in benoitc hackney allows Flooding.
