{"id":"CVE-2026-4072","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"WordPress PayPal Donation <= 1.01 - Authenticated (Contributor+) Stored Cross-Site Scripting via 'amount' Shortcode Attribute","description":"The WordPress PayPal Donation plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'donate' shortcode in all versions up to, and including, 1.01. This is due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied shortcode attributes such as 'amount', 'email', 'title', 'return_url', 'cancel_url', 'ccode', and 'image'. The wordpress_paypal_donation_create() function uses extract(shortcode_atts(...)) to process shortcode attributes and then directly interpolates these values into HTML output within single-quoted attribute values without any escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.","publishedAt":"2026-03-21T03:26:56.908Z","updatedAt":"2026-04-08T17:10:56.760Z","severity":{"score":6.4,"label":"Medium","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N","source":"Wordfence"},"assigner":"Wordfence","products":["tstachl WordPress PayPal Donation"],"affected":[{"vendor":"tstachl","product":"WordPress PayPal Donation","defaultStatus":"unaffected","versions":[{"version":"0","status":"affected","lessThanOrEqual":"1.01","versionType":"semver"}]}],"references":["https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/99a8b48b-2967-4179-a0eb-626bbe273f03?source=cve","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/wordpress-paypal-donation/trunk/wp-paypal-donation.php#L271","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/wordpress-paypal-donation/tags/1.01/wp-paypal-donation.php#L271","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/wordpress-paypal-donation/trunk/wp-paypal-donation.php#L260","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/wordpress-paypal-donation/tags/1.01/wp-paypal-donation.php#L260"],"weaknesses":["CWE-79"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:12:16.098Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/4xxx/CVE-2026-4072.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-4072","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-03-21T03:26:56.908Z","dateUpdated":"2026-04-08T17:10:56.760Z","assignerShortName":"Wordfence","assignerOrgId":"b15e7b5b-3da4-40ae-a43c-f7aa60e62599","dateReserved":"2026-03-12T19:46:38.507Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"WordPress PayPal Donation <= 1.01 - Authenticated (Contributor+) Stored Cross-Site Scripting via 'amount' Shortcode Attribute","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"The WordPress PayPal Donation plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'donate' shortcode in all versions up to, and including, 1.01.
