{"id":"CVE-2026-40572","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"NovumOS has Arbitrary Memory Mapping via Syscall 15 (MemoryMapRange)","description":"NovumOS is a custom 32-bit operating system written in Zig and x86 Assembly. In versions prior to 0.24, Syscall 15 (MemoryMapRange) allows Ring 3 user-mode processes to map arbitrary virtual address ranges into their address space without validating against forbidden regions, including critical kernel structures such as the IDT, GDT, TSS, and page tables. A local attacker can exploit this to modify kernel interrupt handlers, resulting in privilege escalation from user mode to kernel context. This issue has been fixed in version 0.24.","publishedAt":"2026-04-18T00:16:02.590Z","updatedAt":"2026-04-20T14:55:57.521Z","severity":{"score":9,"label":"Critical","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N","source":"GitHub_M"},"assigner":"GitHub_M","products":["MinecAnton209 NovumOS"],"affected":[{"vendor":"MinecAnton209","product":"NovumOS","versions":[{"version":"< 0.24","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/MinecAnton209/NovumOS/security/advisories/GHSA-rg7m-6vh7-f4v2","https://github.com/MinecAnton209/NovumOS/releases/tag/v0.24"],"weaknesses":["CWE-269"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:11:57.932Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/40xxx/CVE-2026-40572.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-40572","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-04-18T00:16:02.590Z","dateUpdated":"2026-04-20T14:55:57.521Z","assignerShortName":"GitHub_M","assignerOrgId":"a0819718-46f1-4df5-94e2-005712e83aaa","dateReserved":"2026-04-14T13:24:29.474Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"NovumOS has Arbitrary Memory Mapping via Syscall 15 (MemoryMapRange)","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"NovumOS is a custom 32-bit operating system written in Zig and x86 Assembly.
