{"id":"CVE-2026-3629","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Import and export users and customers <= 1.29.7 - Privilege Escalation to Administrator via save_extra_user_profile_fields","description":"The Import and export users and customers plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to privilege escalation in all versions up to, and including, 1.29.7. This is due to the 'save_extra_user_profile_fields' function not properly restricting which user meta keys can be updated via profile fields. The 'get_restricted_fields' method does not include sensitive meta keys such as 'wp_capabilities'. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to escalate their privileges to Administrator by submitting a crafted registration request that sets the 'wp_capabilities' meta key. The vulnerability can only be exploited if the \"Show fields in profile\" setting is enabled and a CSV with a wp_capabilities column header has been previously imported.","publishedAt":"2026-03-21T22:24:17.648Z","updatedAt":"2026-04-08T16:50:18.319Z","severity":{"score":8.1,"label":"High","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","source":"Wordfence"},"assigner":"Wordfence","products":["carazo Import and export users and customers"],"affected":[{"vendor":"carazo","product":"Import and export users and customers","defaultStatus":"unaffected","versions":[{"version":"0","status":"affected","lessThanOrEqual":"1.29.7","versionType":"semver"}]}],"references":["https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/48dd9098-38e6-49da-8d22-27e12fddef51?source=cve","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/import-users-from-csv-with-meta/tags/1.29.7/classes/columns.php#L193","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/import-users-from-csv-with-meta/tags/1.29.7/classes/columns.php#L217","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/import-users-from-csv-with-meta/tags/1.29.7/classes/helper.php#L146","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/3483330/import-users-from-csv-with-meta#file37"],"weaknesses":["CWE-269"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:11:50.837Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/3xxx/CVE-2026-3629.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-3629","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-03-21T22:24:17.648Z","dateUpdated":"2026-04-08T16:50:18.319Z","assignerShortName":"Wordfence","assignerOrgId":"b15e7b5b-3da4-40ae-a43c-f7aa60e62599","dateReserved":"2026-03-06T05:47:33.801Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Import and export users and customers <= 1.29.7 - Privilege Escalation to Administrator via save_extra_user_profile_fields","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"The Import and export users and customers plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to privilege escalation in all versions up to, and including, 1.29.7.
