{"id":"CVE-2026-34066","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"nimiq-blockchain: Peer-triggerable panic during history sync","description":"nimiq-blockchain provides persistent block storage for Nimiq's Rust implementation. Prior to version 1.3.0, `HistoryStore::put_historic_txns` uses an `assert!` to enforce invariants about `HistoricTransaction.block_number` (must be within the macro block being pushed and within the same epoch). During history sync, a peer can influence the `history: &[HistoricTransaction]` input passed into `Blockchain::push_history_sync`, and a malformed history list can violate these invariants and trigger a panic. `extend_history_sync` calls `this.history_store.add_to_history(..)` before comparing the computed history root against the macro block header (`block.history_root()`), so the panic can happen before later rejection checks run. The patch for this vulnerability is included as part of v1.3.0. No known workarounds are available.","publishedAt":"2026-04-22T19:47:49.249Z","updatedAt":"2026-04-23T12:57:06.467Z","severity":{"score":5.3,"label":"Medium","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","source":"GitHub_M"},"assigner":"GitHub_M","products":["nimiq nimiq-blockchain"],"affected":[{"vendor":"nimiq","product":"nimiq-blockchain","versions":[{"version":"< 1.3.0","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/nimiq/core-rs-albatross/security/advisories/GHSA-j99g-7rqw-q9jg","https://github.com/nimiq/core-rs-albatross/pull/3656","https://github.com/nimiq/core-rs-albatross/commit/6f5511309c199d84b012fe6b9aba7e5582892c50","https://github.com/nimiq/core-rs-albatross/releases/tag/v1.3.0"],"weaknesses":["CWE-20","CWE-617","CWE-754"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:11:40.391Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/34xxx/CVE-2026-34066.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-34066","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-04-22T19:47:49.249Z","dateUpdated":"2026-04-23T12:57:06.467Z","assignerShortName":"GitHub_M","assignerOrgId":"a0819718-46f1-4df5-94e2-005712e83aaa","dateReserved":"2026-03-25T16:21:40.867Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"nimiq-blockchain: Peer-triggerable panic during history sync","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"nimiq-blockchain provides persistent block storage for Nimiq's Rust implementation.
