When a user provides a dataset file path to the predict() method, the framework automatically determines the file format. If the file is a pickle (.pkl) file, it is loaded using pandas.read_pickle() without any validation or security restrictions. This allows the deserialization of arbitrary Python objects via the unsafe pickle module. A remote attacker can exploit this by providing a maliciously crafted pickle file, leading to arbitrary code execution on the system running the Ludwig prediction.","publishedAt":"2026-05-12T00:00:00.000Z","updatedAt":"2026-05-14T19:54:23.672Z","severity":{"score":9.8,"label":"Critical","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","source":"CISA-ADP"},"assigner":"mitre","products":["n/a n/a"],"affected":[{"vendor":"n/a","product":"n/a","versions":[{"version":"n/a","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/ludwig-ai/ludwig","https://www.notion.so/CVE-2026-31237-35d1e139318881fb95a2ee7c5d0e17d8"],"weaknesses":["CWE-502"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:11:40.391Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/31xxx/CVE-2026-31237.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-31237","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-05-12T00:00:00.000Z","dateUpdated":"2026-05-14T19:54:23.672Z","assignerShortName":"mitre","assignerOrgId":"8254265b-2729-46b6-b9e3-3dfca2d5bfca","dateReserved":"2026-03-09T00:00:00.000Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"The Ludwig framework thru 0.10.4 is vulnerable to insecure deserialization (CWE-502) through its predict() method.
