{"id":"CVE-2026-26064","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"calibre: Path Traversal Vulnerability Enables Arbitrary File Write and Remote Code Execution","description":"calibre is a cross-platform e-book manager for viewing, converting, editing, and cataloging e-books. Versions 9.2.1 and below contain a Path Traversal vulnerability that allows arbitrary file writes anywhere the user has write permissions. On Windows, this leads to Remote Code Execution by writing a payload to the Startup folder, which executes on next login. Function extract_pictures only checks startswith('Pictures'), and does not sanitize '..' sequences. calibre's own ZipFile.extractall() in utils/zipfile.py does sanitize '..' via _get_targetpath(), but extract_pictures() bypasses this by using manual zf.read() + open(). This issue has been fixed in version 9.3.0.","publishedAt":"2026-02-20T01:44:34.137Z","updatedAt":"2026-02-20T15:34:24.625Z","severity":{"score":9.3,"label":"Critical","version":"4.0","vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:H/SI:H/SA:H","source":"GitHub_M"},"assigner":"GitHub_M","products":["kovidgoyal calibre"],"affected":[{"vendor":"kovidgoyal","product":"calibre","versions":[{"version":"< 9.3.0","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibre/security/advisories/GHSA-72ch-3hqc-pgmp","https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibre/commit/e1b5f9b45a5e8fa96c136963ad9a1d35e6adac62"],"weaknesses":["CWE-22"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:11:21.040Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/26xxx/CVE-2026-26064.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-26064","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-02-20T01:44:34.137Z","dateUpdated":"2026-02-20T15:34:24.625Z","assignerShortName":"GitHub_M","assignerOrgId":"a0819718-46f1-4df5-94e2-005712e83aaa","dateReserved":"2026-02-10T18:01:31.900Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"calibre: Path Traversal Vulnerability Enables Arbitrary File Write and Remote Code Execution","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"calibre is a cross-platform e-book manager for viewing, converting, editing, and cataloging e-books.
