This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to create new administrator accounts with attacker-supplied credentials via a CSRF-based REST authentication bypass, granted they can trick a site administrator into performing an action such as clicking on a link. This bypass can be combined with WordPress's ?_method=POST method-override support to convert a top-navigation GET request into an authenticated POST to the REST users endpoint, requiring no existing account on the attacker's part.","publishedAt":"2026-08-01T06:48:48.163Z","updatedAt":"2026-08-03T17:34:26.270Z","severity":{"score":8.8,"label":"High","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","source":"Wordfence"},"assigner":"Wordfence","products":["tigroumeow AI Engine – The Chatbot, AI Framework & MCP for WordPress"],"affected":[{"vendor":"tigroumeow","product":"AI Engine – The Chatbot, AI Framework & MCP for WordPress","defaultStatus":"unaffected","versions":[{"version":"0","status":"affected","lessThanOrEqual":"3.6.5","versionType":"semver"}]}],"references":["https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/45816c45-42bc-4163-b700-a1e913f32c97?source=cve","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/ai-engine/tags/3.6.2/labs/mcp-oauth.php#L127","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/ai-engine/tags/3.6.2/labs/mcp-oauth.php#L120","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/ai-engine/tags/3.6.2/labs/mcp-oauth.php#L121","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/ai-engine/tags/3.6.2/labs/mcp-oauth.php#L49","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset?old_path=%2Fai-engine/tags/3.6.5&new_path=%2Fai-engine/tags/3.6.6","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/3628188/ai-engine/trunk/labs/mcp-oauth.php"],"weaknesses":["CWE-352"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:11:00.674Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/15xxx/CVE-2026-15988.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-15988","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-08-01T06:48:48.163Z","dateUpdated":"2026-08-03T17:34:26.270Z","assignerShortName":"Wordfence","assignerOrgId":"b15e7b5b-3da4-40ae-a43c-f7aa60e62599","dateReserved":"2026-07-16T19:26:38.291Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"AI Engine <= 3.6.5 - Cross-Site Request Forgery to Privilege Escalation via REQUEST_URI Substring Match","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"The AI Engine – The Chatbot, AI Framework & MCP for WordPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Cross-Site Request Forgery in all versions up to, and including, 3.6.5 This is due to missing or incorrect nonce validation on the reauth_for_authorize function.
