{"id":"CVE-2026-12995","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Custom Field Template <= 2.7.8 - Authenticated (Contributor+) Insecure Direct Object Reference to Arbitrary Media File Deletion via 'file_field' Parameter","description":"The Custom Field Template plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Insecure Direct Object Reference in all versions up to, and including, 2.7.8 via the edit_meta_value due to missing validation on a user controlled key. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to delete arbitrary media attachments site-wide by supplying any numeric attachment ID in the file-field parameter alongside the corresponding delete flag, causing content loss and broken pages. Exploitation requires that the attacker's post is governed by a Custom Field Template containing at least one file-type field with the mediaRemove option not enabled, which is the default configuration for file fields.","publishedAt":"2026-09-22T07:41:09.117Z","updatedAt":"2026-09-22T10:25:33.276Z","severity":{"score":4.3,"label":"Medium","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","source":"Wordfence"},"assigner":"Wordfence","products":["hiroaki-miyashita Custom Field Template"],"affected":[{"vendor":"hiroaki-miyashita","product":"Custom Field Template","defaultStatus":"unaffected","versions":[{"version":"0","status":"affected","lessThanOrEqual":"2.7.8","versionType":"semver"}]}],"references":["https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/02f44f5b-c513-4aba-b895-65df681620c6?source=cve","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/custom-field-template/tags/2.7.8/custom-field-template.php#L3500","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/custom-field-template/tags/2.7.8/custom-field-template.php#L3462","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/custom-field-template/tags/2.7.8/custom-field-template.php#L105","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/custom-field-template/tags/2.7.7/custom-field-template.php#L3500","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/custom-field-template/tags/2.7.7/custom-field-template.php#L3462","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/custom-field-template/tags/2.7.7/custom-field-template.php#L105","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset?reponame=&old=3589466%40custom-field-template&new=3589466%40custom-field-template"],"weaknesses":["CWE-639"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:10:52.580Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/12xxx/CVE-2026-12995.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-12995","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-09-22T07:41:09.117Z","dateUpdated":"2026-09-22T10:25:33.276Z","assignerShortName":"Wordfence","assignerOrgId":"b15e7b5b-3da4-40ae-a43c-f7aa60e62599","dateReserved":"2026-06-23T13:14:40.474Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Custom Field Template <= 2.7.8 - Authenticated (Contributor+) Insecure Direct Object Reference to Arbitrary Media File Deletion via 'file_field' Parameter","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"The Custom Field Template plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Insecure Direct Object Reference in all versions up to, and including, 2.7.8 via the edit_meta_value due to missing validation on a user controlled key.
