{"id":"CVE-2026-118653","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Echo: Rate Limiter Bypass via Spoofed X-Forwarded-For Header in Default Configuration","description":"Echo is a Go web framework. From 4.0.0 until 5.1.0, Context.RealIP falls back to client-supplied X-Forwarded-For or X-Real-IP values when Echo.IPExtractor is unset, and the default RateLimiter uses that result as its client identifier. A remote attacker can rotate arbitrary forwarded-address values to obtain new rate-limit buckets and bypass IP-based throttling used for controls such as brute-force or request-volume protection. This issue is fixed in Echo v5.1.0.","publishedAt":"2026-10-28T19:42:05.556Z","updatedAt":"2026-10-28T19:42:05.556Z","severity":{"score":5.3,"label":"Medium","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","source":"GitHub_M"},"assigner":"GitHub_M","products":["labstack echo"],"affected":[{"vendor":"labstack","product":"echo","versions":[{"version":">= 4.0.0, < 5.1.0","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/labstack/echo/security/advisories/GHSA-246p-cpwv-v3jq","https://github.com/labstack/echo/commit/22e4b71109ef072ef011a489066ec662ca9565b2","https://github.com/labstack/echo/releases/tag/v5.1.0"],"weaknesses":["CWE-290"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:10:52.580Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/118xxx/CVE-2026-118653.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-118653","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-10-28T19:42:05.556Z","dateUpdated":"2026-10-28T19:42:05.556Z","assignerShortName":"GitHub_M","assignerOrgId":"a0819718-46f1-4df5-94e2-005712e83aaa","dateReserved":"2026-10-28T17:25:37.561Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Echo: Rate Limiter Bypass via Spoofed X-Forwarded-For Header in Default Configuration","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Echo is a Go web framework.
