{"id":"CVE-2026-101044","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"pacquet before 12.0.0-alpha.5 Path Traversal via lockfile alias","description":"pacquet, the Rust package-manager component shipped in the pnpm npm package versions >=12.0.0-alpha.0 and <12.0.0-alpha.5, does not validate dependency alias/name paths taken from a lockfile before using them in install-time filesystem joins. When a user installs a project with an attacker-supplied lockfile using --trust-lockfile or a frozen lockfile, alias entries containing path traversal segments (for example '../../escaped-link') are used when creating dependency and package links, bin destinations, hoisted entries, and virtual-store slots, allowing symlinks and directories to be created outside the intended project and node_modules boundary. Version 12.0.0-alpha.5 validates dependency names and every virtual-store slot path with a shared safe-join containment helper before any filesystem materialization, rejecting traversal, absolute, platform-specific, and reserved names with ERR_PNPM_INVALID_DEPENDENCY_NAME.","publishedAt":"2026-09-27T17:02:33.798Z","updatedAt":"2026-09-30T15:29:02.862Z","severity":{"score":7.1,"label":"High","version":"4.0","vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:N/VI:H/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","source":"VulnCheck"},"assigner":"VulnCheck","products":["pnpm pnpm"],"affected":[{"vendor":"pnpm","product":"pnpm","packageURL":"pkg:npm/pnpm","defaultStatus":"unaffected","versions":[{"version":"12.0.0-alpha.0","status":"affected","lessThan":"12.0.0-alpha.5","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"12.0.0-alpha.5","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/pnpm/pnpm/security/advisories/GHSA-2rx9-3g3h-c2jv","https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/pacquet-before-12.0.0-alpha.5-path-traversal-via-lockfile-alias"],"weaknesses":["CWE-22"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:10:13.529Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2026/101xxx/CVE-2026-101044.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2026-101044","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-09-27T17:02:33.798Z","dateUpdated":"2026-09-30T15:29:02.862Z","assignerShortName":"VulnCheck","assignerOrgId":"83251b91-4cc7-4094-a5c7-464a1b83ea10","dateReserved":"2026-09-27T15:48:49.472Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"pacquet before 12.0.0-alpha.5 Path Traversal via lockfile alias","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"pacquet, the Rust package-manager component shipped in the pnpm npm package versions >=12.0.0-alpha.0 and <12.0.0-alpha.5, does not validate dependency alias/name paths taken from a lockfile before using them in install-time filesystem joins.
