{"id":"CVE-2025-9973","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Authorization Bypass via Adaptive Authentication in WSO2 Identity Server Allows Cross-Organization Account Takeover","description":"Due to not validating the organization context when executing adaptive authentication flows, the WSO2 Identity Server allows adaptive authentication logic to be triggered on unintended organizations. A malicious actor with privileges to configure adaptive authentication within one organization can leverage this functionality to execute authentication logic on other organizations and sub-organizations.\n\nThis flaw allows bypassing authorization boundaries between organizations, leading to unauthorized access to critical operations and user accounts in other organizations. When adaptive authentication is enabled in a multi-organization deployment, a malicious actor with privileges to configure adaptive authentication in one organization could exploit this feature to perform critical operations in other organizations without authorization. This may result in privilege escalation, unauthorized access to resources, and potential account takeover across organizations.","publishedAt":"2026-05-11T10:12:39.547Z","updatedAt":"2026-05-11T15:18:59.783Z","severity":{"score":6.4,"label":"Medium","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:L","source":"WSO2"},"assigner":"WSO2","products":["WSO2 WSO2 Identity Server","WSO2 Conditional Authentication User and Roles Related Functions"],"affected":[{"vendor":"WSO2","product":"WSO2 Identity Server","defaultStatus":"unaffected","versions":[{"version":"7.1.0","status":"affected","lessThan":"7.1.0.26","versionType":"custom"}]},{"vendor":"WSO2","product":"Conditional Authentication User and Roles Related Functions","packageName":"org.wso2.carbon.identity.conditional.auth.functions:org.wso2.carbon.identity.conditional.auth.functions.user","defaultStatus":"unknown","versions":[{"version":"1.2.76","status":"affected","lessThan":"1.2.76.1","versionType":"custom"},{"version":"1.2.82","status":"unaffected","lessThanOrEqual":"*","versionType":"custom"}]}],"references":["https://security.docs.wso2.com/en/latest/security-announcements/security-advisories/2026/WSO2-2025-4530/"],"weaknesses":["CWE-284","CWE-863"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:10:13.529Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2025/9xxx/CVE-2025-9973.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2025-9973","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2026-05-11T10:12:39.547Z","dateUpdated":"2026-05-11T15:18:59.783Z","assignerShortName":"WSO2","assignerOrgId":"ed10eef1-636d-4fbe-9993-6890dfa878f8","dateReserved":"2025-09-04T08:21:53.892Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Authorization Bypass via Adaptive Authentication in WSO2 Identity Server Allows Cross-Organization Account Takeover","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Due to not validating the organization context when executing adaptive authentication flows, the WSO2 Identity Server allows adaptive authentication logic to be triggered on unintended organizations.
