{"id":"CVE-2025-7771","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Code Execution / Escalation of Privileges in ThrottleStop","description":"ThrottleStop.sys, a legitimate driver, exposes two IOCTL interfaces that allow arbitrary read and write access to physical memory via the MmMapIoSpace function. This insecure implementation can be exploited by a malicious user-mode application to patch the running Windows kernel and invoke arbitrary kernel functions with ring-0 privileges. The vulnerability enables local attackers to execute arbitrary code in kernel context, resulting in privilege escalation and potential follow-on attacks, such as disabling security software or bypassing kernel-level protections. ThrottleStop.sys version 3.0.0.0 and possibly others are affected. Apply updates per vendor instructions.","publishedAt":"2025-08-06T09:35:00.684Z","updatedAt":"2025-08-06T20:25:31.602Z","severity":{"score":8.7,"label":"High","version":"4.0","vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:H/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:H/SI:H/SA:H","source":"Kaspersky"},"assigner":"Kaspersky","products":["TechPowerUp ThrottleStop"],"affected":[{"vendor":"TechPowerUp","product":"ThrottleStop","packageName":"ThrottleStop.sys","defaultStatus":"unknown","versions":[{"version":"3.0.0.0 and possibly others","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/klsecservices/Advisories/blob/master/K-TechPowerUp-2025-001.md","https://www.techpowerup.com/download/techpowerup-throttlestop/","https://securelist.com/av-killer-exploiting-throttlestop-sys/117026/"],"weaknesses":["CWE-782"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:10:04.440Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2025/7xxx/CVE-2025-7771.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.1","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2025-7771","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2025-08-06T09:35:00.684Z","dateUpdated":"2025-08-06T20:25:31.602Z","assignerShortName":"Kaspersky","assignerOrgId":"e45d732a-8f6b-4b6b-be76-7420f6a2b988","dateReserved":"2025-07-17T15:54:18.122Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Code Execution / Escalation of Privileges in ThrottleStop","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"ThrottleStop.sys, a legitimate driver, exposes two IOCTL interfaces that allow arbitrary read and write access to physical memory via the MmMapIoSpace function.
