{"id":"CVE-2025-34251","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Tesla Telematics Control Unit (TCU) < v2025.14 Authentication Bypass","description":"Tesla Telematics Control Unit (TCU) firmware prior to v2025.14 contains an authentication bypass vulnerability. The TCU runs the Android Debug Bridge (adbd) as root and, despite a “lockdown” check that disables adb shell, still permits adb push/pull and adb forward. Because adbd is privileged and the device’s USB port is exposed externally, an attacker with physical access can write an arbitrary file to a writable location and then overwrite the kernel’s uevent_helper or /proc/sys/kernel/hotplug entries via ADB, causing the script to be executed with root privileges.","publishedAt":"2025-10-06T23:35:22.949Z","updatedAt":"2026-05-15T11:15:39.914Z","severity":{"score":8.6,"label":"High","version":"4.0","vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:P/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:H/SI:H/SA:H","source":"VulnCheck"},"assigner":"VulnCheck","products":["Tesla Telematics Control Unit (TCU)"],"affected":[{"vendor":"Tesla","product":"Telematics Control Unit (TCU)","defaultStatus":"unaffected","versions":[{"version":"0","status":"affected","lessThan":"2025.14","versionType":"custom"}],"modules":["Android Debug Bridge"]}],"references":["https://www.tesla.com/","https://www.nccgroup.com/research-blog/technical-advisory-tesla-telematics-control-unit-adb-auth-bypass/","https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/tesla-tcu-auth-bypass"],"weaknesses":["CWE-269","CWE-288"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:09:03.054Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2025/34xxx/CVE-2025-34251.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2025-34251","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2025-10-06T23:35:22.949Z","dateUpdated":"2026-05-15T11:15:39.914Z","assignerShortName":"VulnCheck","assignerOrgId":"83251b91-4cc7-4094-a5c7-464a1b83ea10","dateReserved":"2025-04-15T19:15:22.578Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Tesla Telematics Control Unit (TCU) < v2025.14 Authentication Bypass","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Tesla Telematics Control Unit (TCU) firmware prior to v2025.14 contains an authentication bypass vulnerability.
