{"id":"CVE-2025-20379","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Risky command safeguards bypass using the “/services/streams/search“ REST endpoint through “q“ parameter in Splunk Enterprise","description":"In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.0.1, 9.4.5, 9.3.7, and 9.2.9 and Splunk Cloud Platform versions below 9.3.2411.116, 9.3.2408.124, 10.0.2503.5 and 10.1.2507.1, a low-privileged user that does not hold the “admin“ or “power“ Splunk roles could run a saved search with a risky command using the permissions of a higher-privileged user to bypass the SPL safeguards for risky commands. They could bypass these safeguards on the “/services/streams/search“ endpoint through its “q“ parameter by circumventing endpoint restrictions using character encoding in the REST path. The vulnerability requires the attacker to phish the victim by tricking them into initiating a request within their browser. The authenticated user should not be able to exploit the vulnerability at will.","publishedAt":"2025-11-12T17:23:00.819Z","updatedAt":"2025-11-12T21:04:40.810Z","severity":{"score":3.5,"label":"Low","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","source":"cisco"},"assigner":"cisco","products":["Splunk Splunk Enterprise","Splunk Splunk Cloud Platform"],"affected":[{"vendor":"Splunk","product":"Splunk Enterprise","versions":[{"version":"10.0","status":"affected","lessThan":"10.0.1","versionType":"custom"},{"version":"9.4","status":"affected","lessThan":"9.4.5","versionType":"custom"},{"version":"9.3","status":"affected","lessThan":"9.3.7","versionType":"custom"},{"version":"9.2","status":"affected","lessThan":"9.2.9","versionType":"custom"}]},{"vendor":"Splunk","product":"Splunk Cloud Platform","versions":[{"version":"9.3.2411","status":"affected","lessThan":"9.3.2411.116","versionType":"custom"},{"version":"9.3.2408","status":"affected","lessThan":"9.3.2408.124","versionType":"custom"},{"version":"10.0.2503","status":"affected","lessThan":"10.0.2503.5","versionType":"custom"},{"version":"10.1.2507","status":"affected","lessThan":"10.1.2507.1","versionType":"custom"}]}],"references":["https://advisory.splunk.com/advisories/SVD-2025-1102"],"weaknesses":["CWE-200"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:08:39.238Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2025/20xxx/CVE-2025-20379.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2025-20379","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2025-11-12T17:23:00.819Z","dateUpdated":"2025-11-12T21:04:40.810Z","assignerShortName":"cisco","assignerOrgId":"d1c1063e-7a18-46af-9102-31f8928bc633","dateReserved":"2024-10-10T19:15:13.263Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Risky command safeguards bypass using the “/services/streams/search“ REST endpoint through “q“ parameter in Splunk Enterprise","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.0.1, 9.4.5, 9.3.7, and 9.2.9 and Splunk Cloud Platform versions below 9.3.2411.116, 9.3.2408.124, 10.0.2503.5 and 10.1.2507.1, a low-privileged user that does not hold the “admin“ or “power“ Splunk roles could run a saved search with a risky command using the permissions of a higher-privileged user to bypass the SPL safeguards for risky commands.
