Delivery of the crafted image is via local/removable media, so the vector is Local.\nAC:L - The attacker fully controls the on-disk image and can deterministically set `stbl[i]` to a negative value; no race, no memory-layout guess, and no condition outside attacker control is involved. Any directory listing of the crafted directory reliably triggers the out-of-bounds access.\nPR:N - The attacker needs no privileges or account on the target system — they only supply a malicious JFS image (e.g. USB media), and the subsequent `readdir` requires nothing beyond ordinary directory read permission. JFS is `FS_REQUIRES_DEV` without `FS_USERNS_MOUNT`, so mounting is done by the victim/automounter rather than by the attacker.\nUI:R - The crafted filesystem must be mounted by a user or automounter (udisks/desktop automount on kiosks and workstations) before the directory can be read. That mount action is the required user interaction.\nS:U - The out-of-bounds read and write stay within the kernel's own memory and security authority; no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.\nC:H - Up to 4 KB of kernel memory preceding the dtree metapage or the `jfs_inode_info` slab object is read and then emitted to userspace as directory entry names and inode numbers via `dir_emit()`, giving a directly harvestable disclosure of adjacent heap contents including potential pointers and secrets.\nI:H - The same unvalidated negative index flows into `add_missing_indices()`, which performs `d->index = cpu_to_le32(add_index(...))` — a 4-byte out-of-bounds write at attacker-chosen negative offset — and stores the bad offset into the transaction linelock, corrupting adjacent kernel objects and journal metadata.\nA:H - Reading and writing up to 4 KB outside the metapage/slab object readily hits unmapped or poisoned memory, producing the KASAN-reported oops/panic seen by syzbot, and the stray write corrupts filesystem and journal state."}]}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"Linux","orgId":"416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67","dateUpdated":"2026-08-05T11:45:15.252Z"},"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.12","versionEndExcluding":"5.4.287"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.12","versionEndExcluding":"5.10.231"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.12","versionEndExcluding":"5.15.174"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.12","versionEndExcluding":"6.1.120"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.12","versionEndExcluding":"6.6.66"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.12","versionEndExcluding":"6.12.5"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.12","versionEndExcluding":"6.13"}]}]}],"x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}},"adp":[{"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment","metrics":[{"cvssV3_1":{"scope":"UNCHANGED","version":"3.1","baseScore":7.8,"attackVector":"LOCAL","baseSeverity":"HIGH","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","integrityImpact":"HIGH","userInteraction":"NONE","attackComplexity":"LOW","availabilityImpact":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"LOW","confidentialityImpact":"HIGH"}},{"other":{"type":"ssvc","content":{"id":"CVE-2024-56596","role":"CISA Coordinator","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"total"}],"version":"2.0.3","timestamp":"2025-10-01T20:01:31.920173Z"}}}],"problemTypes":[{"descriptions":[{"cweId":"CWE-129","lang":"en","type":"CWE","description":"CWE-129 Improper Validation of Array Index"}]}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"CISA-ADP","orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","dateUpdated":"2025-10-01T20:07:14.017Z"}},{"title":"CVE Program Container","references":[{"url":"https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2025/03/msg00001.html"},{"url":"https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2025/03/msg00002.html"}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"CVE","orgId":"af854a3a-2127-422b-91ae-364da2661108","dateUpdated":"2025-11-03T20:50:27.430Z"}}]}}}
