This assumption is bogus since it's valid\nto create egress qdiscs with major handle ffff:\nBudimir Markovic found that for qdiscs like DRR that maintain an active\nclass list, it will cause a UAF with a dangling class pointer.\n\nIn 066a3b5b2346, the concern was to avoid iterating over the ingress\nqdisc since its parent is itself. Per kernel guidance, tc/netlink qdisc bugs are Local.\nAC:L - This is a deterministic logic error, not a race — the attacker simply creates an egress qdisc with major handle ffff:, adds a class, queues a packet, drains it, and deletes the class, all under full attacker control. The affected schedulers (HTB, DRR, QFQ, HFSC, ETS) are standard, widely built modules, so no unusual configuration is needed.\nPR:L - The tc paths require CAP_NET_ADMIN checked via netlink_net_capable() against the network namespace's owning user_ns, which any unprivileged user obtains with `unshare -Urn` on distributions enabling unprivileged user namespaces. The entire attack works inside that namespace against loopback.\nUI:N - The attacker performs every step — qdisc creation, class creation, packet injection on loopback, and class deletion — with no action from any other user or administrator.\nS:U - The use-after-free corrupts kernel heap memory and yields escalation within the same kernel security authority. No VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.\nC:H - The freed drr/htb/qfq class object remains reachable through the active list, and the dequeue path reads pointers and counters out of it after an attacker has reclaimed the slot, giving heap/kernel-pointer disclosure and, via the resulting control primitives, arbitrary memory read.\nI:H - The dangling list entry is written by list_del()/list_move_tail() — a classic unlink write-what-where — and drr_dequeue() calls cl->qdisc->ops->peek() through pointers read from the attacker-controlled freed object, giving control-flow hijack and arbitrary write suitable for local privilege escalation.\nA:H - Even without full exploitation, walking the active list into freed memory and dereferencing a stale class pointer causes an immediate kernel oops or panic, and the sequence can be triggered repeatedly at will."}]}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"Linux","orgId":"416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67","dateUpdated":"2026-08-05T11:43:20.866Z"},"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.25","versionEndExcluding":"4.19.323"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.25","versionEndExcluding":"5.4.285"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.25","versionEndExcluding":"5.10.229"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.25","versionEndExcluding":"5.15.171"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.25","versionEndExcluding":"6.1.116"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.25","versionEndExcluding":"6.6.60"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.25","versionEndExcluding":"6.11.7"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.25","versionEndExcluding":"6.12"}]}]}],"x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}},"adp":[{"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment","metrics":[{"cvssV3_1":{"scope":"UNCHANGED","version":"3.1","baseScore":7.8,"attackVector":"LOCAL","baseSeverity":"HIGH","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","integrityImpact":"HIGH","userInteraction":"NONE","attackComplexity":"LOW","availabilityImpact":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"LOW","confidentialityImpact":"HIGH"}},{"other":{"type":"ssvc","content":{"id":"CVE-2024-53057","role":"CISA Coordinator","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"total"}],"version":"2.0.3","timestamp":"2024-12-11T14:25:23.594430Z"}}}],"problemTypes":[{"descriptions":[{"cweId":"CWE-416","lang":"en","type":"CWE","description":"CWE-416 Use After Free"}]}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"CISA-ADP","orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","dateUpdated":"2024-12-11T14:58:31.650Z"}},{"title":"CVE Program Container","references":[{"url":"https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2025/03/msg00002.html"},{"url":"https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2025/01/msg00001.html"}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"CVE","orgId":"af854a3a-2127-422b-91ae-364da2661108","dateUpdated":"2025-11-03T22:28:50.519Z"}},{"affected":[{"vendor":"Siemens","product":"SIMATIC S7-1500 CPU 1518-4 PN/DP MFP","defaultStatus":"unknown","versions":[{"version":"V3.1.0","status":"affected","lessThan":"V3.1.5","versionType":"custom"}]},{"vendor":"Siemens","product":"SIMATIC S7-1500 CPU 1518-4 PN/DP MFP","defaultStatus":"unknown","versions":[{"version":"V3.1.0","status":"affected","lessThan":"V3.1.5","versionType":"custom"}]},{"vendor":"Siemens","product":"SIMATIC S7-1500 CPU 1518F-4 PN/DP MFP","defaultStatus":"unknown","versions":[{"version":"V3.1.0","status":"affected","lessThan":"V3.1.5","versionType":"custom"}]},{"vendor":"Siemens","product":"SIMATIC S7-1500 CPU 1518F-4 PN/DP MFP","defaultStatus":"unknown","versions":[{"version":"V3.1.0","status":"affected","lessThan":"V3.1.5","versionType":"custom"}]},{"vendor":"Siemens","product":"SIMATIC S7-1500 TM MFP -
