an unprivileged local attacker triggers this via syscalls such as socket() that autoload net-pf-* modules, then sends SIGKILL to the waiting process.\nAC:L - The attacker controls both sides of the race by triggering request_module and delivering SIGKILL to their own process while it waits for modprobe, and can retry until umh_complete() completes the on-stack completion after the waiter has returned.\nPR:L - Module autoload via request_module() does not require CAP_SYS_MODULE; an ordinary unprivileged user can invoke it through socket() and many other unprivileged entry points with no elevated capabilities.\nUI:N - Exploitation requires no action from another user; the attacker alone triggers module autoload and signals their own process.\nS:U - Impact is confined to the local kernel's security authority (kernel memory corruption / privilege escalation); it does not cross a VM, IOMMU, or other security boundary.\nC:H - The bug is a use-after-free of an on-stack completion: umh_complete()/complete() operates on freed stack memory, which is memory corruption that can be leveraged for information disclosure under the UAF impact model.\nI:H - complete() writes to the freed stack completion (lock and done fields), corrupting the live or reused kernel stack and enabling control-flow hijacking / arbitrary integrity impact.\nA:H - The stack UAF causes kernel warnings/oopses (as seen in the syzbot lockdep crash in umh_complete) and can panic or hang the system."}]}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"Linux","orgId":"416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67","dateUpdated":"2026-08-05T09:11:05.098Z"},"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.1","versionEndExcluding":"6.1.13"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.1","versionEndExcluding":"6.2"}]}]}],"x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}},"adp":[{"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment","metrics":[{"cvssV3_1":{"scope":"UNCHANGED","version":"3.1","baseScore":5.5,"attackVector":"LOCAL","baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","integrityImpact":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","attackComplexity":"LOW","availabilityImpact":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"LOW","confidentialityImpact":"NONE"}},{"other":{"type":"ssvc","content":{"timestamp":"2024-05-29T17:51:26.143724Z","id":"CVE-2023-52704","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"partial"}],"role":"CISA Coordinator","version":"2.0.3"}}}],"problemTypes":[{"descriptions":[{"type":"CWE","lang":"en","description":"CWE-noinfo Not enough information"}]}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"CISA-ADP","orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","dateUpdated":"2024-10-31T20:11:31.465Z"}},{"title":"CVE Program Container","references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/7f9f6c54da876b3f0bece2b569456ceb96965ed7","tags":["x_transferred"]},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/eedeb787ebb53de5c5dcf7b7b39d01bf1b0f037d","tags":["x_transferred"]}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"CVE","orgId":"af854a3a-2127-422b-91ae-364da2661108","dateUpdated":"2024-08-02T23:11:35.365Z"}}]}}}
