{"id":"CVE-2023-0461","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux Kernel","description":"There is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux Kernel which can be exploited to achieve local privilege escalation. To reach the vulnerability kernel configuration flag CONFIG_TLS or CONFIG_XFRM_ESPINTCP has to be configured, but the operation does not require any privilege.\n\nThere is a use-after-free bug of icsk_ulp_data of a struct inet_connection_sock.\n\nWhen CONFIG_TLS is enabled, user can install a tls context (struct tls_context) on a connected tcp socket. The context is not cleared if this socket is disconnected and reused as a listener. If a new socket is created from the listener, the context is inherited and vulnerable.\n\nThe setsockopt TCP_ULP operation does not require any privilege.\n\nWe recommend upgrading past commit 2c02d41d71f90a5168391b6a5f2954112ba2307c","publishedAt":"2023-02-28T14:23:02.224Z","updatedAt":"2025-02-13T16:38:58.993Z","severity":{"score":7.8,"label":"High","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","source":"Google"},"assigner":"Google","products":["Linux Linux Kernel"],"affected":[{"vendor":"Linux","product":"Linux Kernel","packageName":"kernel","defaultStatus":"unaffected","versions":[{"version":"0","status":"affected","lessThan":"2c02d41d71f90a5168391b6a5f2954112ba2307c","versionType":"git"}],"repo":"https://git.kernel.org"}],"references":["https://kernel.dance/#2c02d41d71f90a5168391b6a5f2954112ba2307c","https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=2c02d41d71f90a5168391b6a5f2954112ba2307c","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2023/05/msg00005.html","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2023/05/msg00006.html","https://security.netapp.com/advisory/ntap-20230331-0006/"],"weaknesses":["CWE-416"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T20:05:36.141Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2023/0xxx/CVE-2023-0461.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.1","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2023-0461","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2023-02-28T14:23:02.224Z","dateUpdated":"2025-02-13T16:38:58.993Z","assignerShortName":"Google","assignerOrgId":"14ed7db2-1595-443d-9d34-6215bf890778","dateReserved":"2023-01-24T09:47:24.966Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux Kernel","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"There is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux Kernel which can be exploited to achieve local privilege escalation.
