- The UAF is reached by destroying an IPMI user via the local character-device path (close/release on /dev/ipmiN → ipmi_destroy_user → _ipmi_destroy_user) or the same teardown during local SMI unregister; no remote or adjacent packet path reaches this code.\nAC:H - module_put(intf->owner) only uses freed memory when intf is actually freed in the narrow window after the user kref_put and before that module_put, which requires a concurrent last-ref drop from ipmi_unregister_smi (rmmod/sysfs unbind/hot-remove) that a /dev/ipmi-only attacker cannot start.\nPR:L - ipmi_open/ipmi_create_user perform no capable() check; access is only gated by /dev/ipmiN DAC, and server/appliance deployments routinely grant that node to a non-root management group for ipmitool/freeipmi, matching established IPMI scoring.\nUI:N - The attacker drives open/close on their own IPMI fd; any concurrent unregister is an environmental teardown condition counted under Attack Complexity, not a separate victim interaction.\nS:U - This is a host-kernel heap use-after-free of struct ipmi_smi within the same OS security authority, with no VM escape, IOMMU bypass, or sandbox boundary crossing.\nC:H - After intf_free kfree()s the ipmi_smi, module_put(intf->owner) reads the owner pointer from freed slab (owner is the first field); reclaim/spray of that object yields an attacker-influenced pointer and a kernel read primitive, so confidentiality is High per UAF guidance.\nI:H - module_put() then performs atomic refcount updates through that stale/reclaimed module pointer, giving a write-into-freed-memory / decrement primitive that can corrupt module state or sprayed heap and enable control-flow hijack.\nA:H - Dereferencing the freed ipmi_smi for intf->owner readily oopses under poisoning/init_on_free/KASAN, and a corrupted module_put path can WARN/panic (panic_on_oops/warn), so availability impact is High."}]}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"Linux","orgId":"416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67","dateUpdated":"2026-08-05T08:59:23.537Z"},"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"4.19.92","versionEndExcluding":"4.19.270"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.4.7","versionEndExcluding":"5.4.229"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.5","versionEndExcluding":"5.10.163"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.5","versionEndExcluding":"5.15.87"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.5","versionEndExcluding":"6.0.18"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.5","versionEndExcluding":"6.1.4"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.5","versionEndExcluding":"6.2"}]}]}],"x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}},"adp":[{"title":"CISA
