resolved:\n\nf2fs: fix dereference of stale list iterator after loop body\n\nThe list iterator variable will be a bogus pointer if no break was hit.\nDereferencing it (cur->page in this case) could load an out-of-bounds/undefined\nvalue making it unsafe to use that in the comparision to determine if the\nspecific element was found.\n\nSince 'cur->page' *can* be out-ouf-bounds it cannot be guaranteed that\nby chance (or intention of an attacker) it matches the value of 'page'\neven though the correct element was not found.\n\nThis is fixed by using a separate list iterator variable for the loop\nand only setting the original variable if a suitable element was found.\nThen determing if the element was found is simply checking if the\nvariable is set.","publishedAt":"2025-02-26T02:12:46.702Z","updatedAt":"2026-08-05T08:55:10.701Z","severity":{"score":7.8,"label":"High","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","source":"Linux"},"assigner":"Linux","products":["Linux - Reachable only via local f2fs atomic-write ioctls and pagecache invalidate/truncate on an f2fs inode (F2FS_IOC_START_ATOMIC_WRITE → dirty → f2fs_invalidate_folio → f2fs_drop_inmem_page); not via network protocol handlers.\nAC:L - An unprivileged local attacker fully controls the atomic-write, write, and truncate/invalidate sequence on their own file and can drive the drop path directly; no attacker-independent timing or rare hardware state is required.\nPR:L - F2FS_IOC_START_ATOMIC_WRITE only needs inode_owner_or_capable, so any unprivileged user who owns a file on a mounted f2fs volume (common on Android userdata) can enter the path without real root.\nUI:N - On typical f2fs deployments the filesystem is already mounted; the attacker triggers the bug with their own ioctl/write/truncate and needs no separate victim action.\nS:U - Impact is kernel memory corruption within the host f2fs/pagecache authority and does not cross VM, IOMMU, or other security boundaries.\nC:H - On the not-found path the stale iterator aliases into f2fs_inode_info; continuing to kmem_cache_free that address corrupts slab freelists, which is leveragable for arbitrary kernel read primitives.\nI:H - list_del on the bogus inmem_pages object and kmem_cache_free of a non-slab inode-interior pointer yield heap corruption exploitable for arbitrary write and control-flow hijacking.\nA:H - The same path can BUG_ON/WARN then fault in list_del/slab free, or panic from corrupted freelists, so availability impact is a kernel oops/panic."}]}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"Linux","orgId":"416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67","dateUpdated":"2026-08-05T08:55:10.701Z"},"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"4.12","versionEndExcluding":"4.19.247"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"4.12","versionEndExcluding":"5.4.198"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"4.12","versionEndExcluding":"5.10.121"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"4.12","versionEndExcluding":"5.15.46"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"4.12","versionEndExcluding":"5.17.14"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"4.12","versionEndExcluding":"5.18.3"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"4.12","versionEndExcluding":"5.19"}]}]}],"x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}}}}}
