a remote client triggers it by sending an NFSv3 SETATTR/CREATE with a file size larger than S64_MAX over the network.\nAC:L - The attacker fully controls the sattr3 size field and can deterministically supply any u64 greater than S64_MAX; the silent min_t() capping and subsequent nfsd_setattr/notify_change path require no race or attacker-uncontrollable conditions.\nPR:N - Typical nfsd deployments accept AUTH_SYS/AUTH_NULL on reachable exports, so a network peer can obtain a filehandle and assert a writable UID without verified credentials; NFSv3 SETATTR/CREATE with ATTR_SIZE then proceeds under those unauthenticated credentials.\nUI:N - The attacker alone mounts/looks up and issues SETATTR or CREATE with an oversized size; no victim user action is required beyond nfsd already exporting a writable filesystem.\nS:U - Impact is confined to the NFS server's own kernel/filesystem state under the same OS security authority; there is no VM escape, IOMMU bypass, or other cross-boundary effect.\nC:N - The flaw silently substitutes NFS_OFFSET_MAX for an oversized client size and applies that via setattr; it does not create an OOB/UAF read or other information-disclosure primitive.\nI:H - Silently capping oversized sizes to NFS_OFFSET_MAX causes nfsd to apply a maximum file size on filesystems whose s_maxbytes allows it (e.g. XFS with MAX_LFS_FILESIZE), corrupting the file's size attribute relative to the protocol's reject-oversized policy; when uncertain versus Low, High is required.\nA:H - Applying a S64_MAX file size via SETATTR/CREATE enables enormous sparse files and edge-case VFS/filesystem behavior at OFFSET_MAX that can deny service for the exported data and destabilize subsequent operations on that inode; when uncertain versus Low, High is required."}]}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"Linux","orgId":"416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67","dateUpdated":"2026-08-05T08:52:34.299Z"},"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.12","versionEndExcluding":"5.4.295"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.12","versionEndExcluding":"5.10.220"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.12","versionEndExcluding":"5.15.24"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.12","versionEndExcluding":"5.16.10"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"2.6.12","versionEndExcluding":"5.17"}]}]}],"x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}},"adp":[{"title":"CVE Program Container","references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/a231ae6bb50e7c0a9e9efd7b0d10687f1d71b3a3","tags":["x_transferred"]},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/37f2d2cd8eadddbbd9c7bda327a9393399b2f89b","tags":["x_transferred"]},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/aa9051ddb4b378bd22e72a67bc77b9fc1482c5f0","tags":["x_transferred"]},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/a648fdeb7c0e17177a2280344d015dba3fbe3314","tags":["x_transferred"]}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"CVE","orgId":"af854a3a-2127-422b-91ae-364da2661108","dateUpdated":"2024-08-03T15:25:01.577Z"}},{"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment","metrics":[{"other":{"type":"ssvc","content":{"id":"CVE-2022-48829","role":"CISA Coordinator","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"partial"}],"version":"2.0.3","timestamp":"2024-09-10T16:57:33.741233Z"}}}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"CISA-ADP","orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","dateUpdated":"2024-09-11T17:34:11.248Z"}},{"affected":[{"vendor":"Siemens","product":"SIMATIC S7-1500 TM MFP - GNU/Linux subsystem","defaultStatus":"unknown","versions":[{"version":"0","status":"affected","lessThan":"V1.1.1","versionType":"custom"}]}],"references":[{"url":"https://cert-portal.siemens.com/productcert/html/ssa-265688.html"},{"url":"https://cert-portal.siemens.com/productcert/html/ssa-355557.html"}],"providerMetadata":{"shortName":"siemens-SADP","orgId":"0b142b55-0307-4c5a-b3c9-f314f3fb7c5e","dateUpdated":"2026-10-14T18:44:53.923Z"},"x_adpType":"supplier"}]}}}
