{"id":"CVE-2022-36071","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Recovery codes abuse in SFTPGo","description":"SFTPGo is configurable SFTP server with optional HTTP/S, FTP/S and WebDAV support. SFTPGo WebAdmin and WebClient support login using TOTP (Time-based One Time Passwords) as a secondary authentication factor. Because TOTPs are often configured on mobile devices that can be lost, stolen or damaged, SFTPGo also supports recovery codes. These are a set of one time use codes that can be used instead of the TOTP. In SFTPGo versions from version 2.2.0 to 2.3.3 recovery codes can be generated before enabling two-factor authentication. An attacker who knows the user's password could potentially generate some recovery codes and then bypass two-factor authentication after it is enabled on the account at a later time. This issue has been fixed in version 2.3.4. Recovery codes can now only be generated after enabling two-factor authentication and are deleted after disabling it.","publishedAt":"2022-09-02T17:15:12.000Z","updatedAt":"2025-04-22T17:24:43.553Z","severity":{"score":8.3,"label":"High","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:L","source":"GitHub_M"},"assigner":"GitHub_M","products":["drakkan sftpgo"],"affected":[{"vendor":"drakkan","product":"sftpgo","versions":[{"version":">= 2.2.0, < 2.3.4","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/security/advisories/GHSA-54qx-8p8w-xhg8","https://github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/issues/965"],"weaknesses":["CWE-287"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T19:50:21.136Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2022/36xxx/CVE-2022-36071.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.1","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2022-36071","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2022-09-02T17:15:12.000Z","dateUpdated":"2025-04-22T17:24:43.553Z","assignerShortName":"GitHub_M","assignerOrgId":"a0819718-46f1-4df5-94e2-005712e83aaa","dateReserved":"2022-07-15T00:00:00.000Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Recovery codes abuse in SFTPGo","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"SFTPGo is configurable SFTP server with optional HTTP/S, FTP/S and WebDAV support.
