{"id":"CVE-2022-24770","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Improper Neutralization of Formula Elements in a CSV File in Gradio Flagging","description":"`gradio` is an open source framework for building interactive machine learning models and demos. Prior to version 2.8.11, `gradio` suffers from Improper Neutralization of Formula Elements in a CSV File. The `gradio` library has a flagging functionality which saves input/output data into a CSV file on the developer's computer. This can allow a user to save arbitrary text into the CSV file, such as commands. If a program like MS Excel opens such a file, then it automatically runs these commands, which could lead to arbitrary commands running on the user's computer. The problem has been patched as of `2.8.11`, which escapes the saved csv with single quotes. As a workaround, avoid opening csv files generated by `gradio` with Excel or similar spreadsheet programs.","publishedAt":"2022-03-17T20:30:19.000Z","updatedAt":"2025-04-23T18:46:31.781Z","severity":{"score":8.8,"label":"High","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","source":"GitHub_M"},"assigner":"GitHub_M","products":["gradio-app gradio"],"affected":[{"vendor":"gradio-app","product":"gradio","versions":[{"version":"< 2.8.11","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/gradio-app/gradio/security/advisories/GHSA-f8xq-q7px-wg8c","https://github.com/gradio-app/gradio/pull/817","https://github.com/gradio-app/gradio/commit/80fea89117358ee105973453fdc402398ae20239"],"weaknesses":["CWE-1236"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T19:49:43.915Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2022/24xxx/CVE-2022-24770.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.1","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2022-24770","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2022-03-17T20:30:19.000Z","dateUpdated":"2025-04-23T18:46:31.781Z","assignerShortName":"GitHub_M","assignerOrgId":"a0819718-46f1-4df5-94e2-005712e83aaa","dateReserved":"2022-02-10T00:00:00.000Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Improper Neutralization of Formula Elements in a CSV File in Gradio Flagging","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"`gradio` is an open source framework for building interactive machine learning models and demos.
