{"id":"CVE-2022-21718","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Renderers can obtain access to random bluetooth device without permission in Electron","description":"Electron is a framework for writing cross-platform desktop applications using JavaScript, HTML and CSS. A vulnerability in versions prior to `17.0.0-alpha.6`, `16.0.6`, `15.3.5`, `14.2.4`, and `13.6.6` allows renderers to obtain access to a bluetooth device via the web bluetooth API if the app has not configured a custom `select-bluetooth-device` event handler. This has been patched and Electron versions `17.0.0-alpha.6`, `16.0.6`, `15.3.5`, `14.2.4`, and `13.6.6` contain the fix. Code from the GitHub Security Advisory can be added to the app to work around the issue.","publishedAt":"2022-03-22T16:25:12.000Z","updatedAt":"2025-04-23T18:45:03.237Z","severity":{"score":3.4,"label":"Low","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:N/A:N","source":"GitHub_M"},"assigner":"GitHub_M","products":["electron electron"],"affected":[{"vendor":"electron","product":"electron","versions":[{"version":"< 13.6.6","status":"affected"},{"version":">= 14.0.0-beta.1, < 14.2.4","status":"affected"},{"version":">= 15.0.0-beta.1, < 15.3.5","status":"affected"},{"version":">= 16.0.0-beta.1, < 16.0.6","status":"affected"},{"version":">= 17.0.0-alpha.1, <= 17.0.0-alpha.5","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/electron/electron/security/advisories/GHSA-3p22-ghq8-v749","https://github.com/electron/electron/pull/32178","https://github.com/electron/electron/pull/32240"],"weaknesses":["CWE-668"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T19:49:35.025Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2022/21xxx/CVE-2022-21718.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.1","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2022-21718","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2022-03-22T16:25:12.000Z","dateUpdated":"2025-04-23T18:45:03.237Z","assignerShortName":"GitHub_M","assignerOrgId":"a0819718-46f1-4df5-94e2-005712e83aaa","dateReserved":"2021-11-16T00:00:00.000Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Renderers can obtain access to random bluetooth device without permission in Electron","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Electron is a framework for writing cross-platform desktop applications using JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
