{"id":"CVE-2021-41178","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"File Traversal affecting SVG files on Nextcloud Server","description":"Nextcloud is an open-source, self-hosted productivity platform. Prior to versions 20.0.13, 21.0.5, and 22.2.0, a file traversal vulnerability makes an attacker able to download arbitrary SVG images from the host system, including user provided files. This could also be leveraged into a XSS/phishing attack, an attacker could upload a malicious SVG file that mimics the Nextcloud login form and send a specially crafted link to victims. The XSS risk here is mitigated due to the fact that Nextcloud employs a strict Content-Security-Policy disallowing execution of arbitrary JavaScript. It is recommended that the Nextcloud Server be upgraded to 20.0.13, 21.0.5 or 22.2.0. There are no known workarounds aside from upgrading.","publishedAt":"2021-10-25T21:55:11.000Z","updatedAt":"2024-08-04T02:59:31.637Z","severity":{"score":8.8,"label":"High","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","source":"GitHub_M"},"assigner":"GitHub_M","products":["nextcloud security-advisories"],"affected":[{"vendor":"nextcloud","product":"security-advisories","versions":[{"version":"20.0.13","status":"affected"},{"version":">= 21.0.0, < 21.0.5","status":"affected"},{"version":"< 22.2.0","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/nextcloud/security-advisories/security/advisories/GHSA-jp9c-vpr3-m5rf","https://github.com/nextcloud/server/pull/28726","https://hackerone.com/reports/1302155","https://security.gentoo.org/glsa/202208-17"],"weaknesses":["CWE-23","CWE-434"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T19:49:01.697Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2021/41xxx/CVE-2021-41178.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.1","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2021-41178","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2021-10-25T21:55:11.000Z","dateUpdated":"2024-08-04T02:59:31.637Z","assignerShortName":"GitHub_M","assignerOrgId":"a0819718-46f1-4df5-94e2-005712e83aaa","dateReserved":"2021-09-15T00:00:00.000Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"File Traversal affecting SVG files on Nextcloud Server","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Nextcloud is an open-source, self-hosted productivity platform.
