{"id":"CVE-2021-41149","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Improper sanitization of target names in tough","description":"Tough provides a set of Rust libraries and tools for using and generating the update framework (TUF) repositories. The tough library, prior to 0.12.0, does not properly sanitize target names when caching a repository, or when saving specific targets to an output directory. When targets are cached or saved, files could be overwritten with arbitrary content anywhere on the system. A fix is available in version 0.12.0. No workarounds to this issue are known.","publishedAt":"2021-10-19T18:00:12.000Z","updatedAt":"2024-08-04T02:59:31.624Z","severity":{"score":8.2,"label":"High","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N","source":"GitHub_M"},"assigner":"GitHub_M","products":["awslabs tough"],"affected":[{"vendor":"awslabs","product":"tough","versions":[{"version":"< 0.12.0","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/awslabs/tough/security/advisories/GHSA-x3r5-q6mj-m485","https://github.com/awslabs/tough/commit/1809b9bd1106d78a51fbea3071aa97a3530bac9a"],"weaknesses":["CWE-22"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T19:49:01.697Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2021/41xxx/CVE-2021-41149.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.1","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2021-41149","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2021-10-19T18:00:12.000Z","dateUpdated":"2024-08-04T02:59:31.624Z","assignerShortName":"GitHub_M","assignerOrgId":"a0819718-46f1-4df5-94e2-005712e83aaa","dateReserved":"2021-09-15T00:00:00.000Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Improper sanitization of target names in tough","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Tough provides a set of Rust libraries and tools for using and generating the update framework (TUF) repositories.
