This is due to missing authorization checks on the aj_steps AJAX aciton along with a lack on sanitization on the settings saved via the function. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers with subscriber level permissions and above to inject malicious web scripts into a page that execute whenever a user accesses that page.","publishedAt":"2025-10-18T03:33:24.573Z","updatedAt":"2026-04-08T17:16:10.864Z","severity":{"score":6.4,"label":"Medium","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N","source":"Wordfence"},"assigner":"Wordfence","products":["cloughit Async JavaScript"],"affected":[{"vendor":"cloughit","product":"Async JavaScript","defaultStatus":"unaffected","versions":[{"version":"0","status":"affected","lessThan":"2.20.02.27","versionType":"semver"}]}],"references":["https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/b133888c-7673-4796-917c-486bff1b6b12?source=cve","https://www.wordfence.com/blog/2020/02/site-takeover-campaign-exploits-multiple-zero-day-vulnerabilities/"],"weaknesses":["CWE-79"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T19:47:24.909Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2020/36xxx/CVE-2020-36854.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.2","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2020-36854","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2025-10-18T03:33:24.573Z","dateUpdated":"2026-04-08T17:16:10.864Z","assignerShortName":"Wordfence","assignerOrgId":"b15e7b5b-3da4-40ae-a43c-f7aa60e62599","dateReserved":"2025-10-17T15:05:50.130Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Async JavaScript <= 2.19.07.14 - Authenticated (Subscriber+) Stored Cross-Site Scripting","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"The Async JavaScript plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting in versions up to, and including, 2.19.07.14.
