{"id":"CVE-2020-26291","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Hostname spoofing in URI.js","description":"URI.js is a javascript URL mutation library (npm package urijs). In URI.js before version 1.19.4, the hostname can be spoofed by using a backslash (`\\`) character followed by an at (`@`) character. If the hostname is used in security decisions, the decision may be incorrect. Depending on library usage and attacker intent, impacts may include allow/block list bypasses, SSRF attacks, open redirects, or other undesired behavior. For example the URL `https://expected-example.com\\@observed-example.com` will incorrectly return `observed-example.com` if using an affected version. Patched versions correctly return `expected-example.com`. Patched versions match the behavior of other parsers which implement the WHATWG URL specification, including web browsers and Node's built-in URL class. Version 1.19.4 is patched against all known payload variants. Version 1.19.3 has a partial patch but is still vulnerable to a payload variant.]","publishedAt":"2020-12-30T23:40:16.000Z","updatedAt":"2024-08-04T15:56:03.814Z","severity":{"score":6.5,"label":"Medium","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","source":"GitHub_M"},"assigner":"GitHub_M","products":["medialize URI.js"],"affected":[{"vendor":"medialize","product":"URI.js","versions":[{"version":"< 1.19.4","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://github.com/medialize/URI.js/security/advisories/GHSA-3329-pjwv-fjpg","https://www.npmjs.com/package/urijs","https://github.com/medialize/URI.js/releases/tag/v1.19.4","https://github.com/medialize/URI.js/commit/b02bf037c99ac9316b77ff8bfd840e90becf1155"],"weaknesses":["CWE-20"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T19:47:08.370Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2020/26xxx/CVE-2020-26291.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.1","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2020-26291","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2020-12-30T23:40:16.000Z","dateUpdated":"2024-08-04T15:56:03.814Z","assignerShortName":"GitHub_M","assignerOrgId":"a0819718-46f1-4df5-94e2-005712e83aaa","dateReserved":"2020-10-01T00:00:00.000Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Hostname spoofing in URI.js","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"URI.js is a javascript URL mutation library (npm package urijs).
