The power consumption of each row-based display cycle depends on the number of illuminated pixels, allowing a partial recovery of display contents. For example, a hardware implant in the USB cable might be able to leverage this behavior to recover confidential secrets such as the PIN and BIP39 mnemonic. Note: BIP39 secrets are not displayed by default on this device. The side channel is relevant only if the attacker has enough control over the device's USB connection to make power-consumption measurements at a time when secret data is displayed. The side channel is not relevant in other circumstances, such as a stolen device that is not currently displaying secret data.","publishedAt":"2019-11-02T16:25:42.000Z","updatedAt":"2024-08-05T01:54:14.606Z","severity":null,"assigner":"mitre","products":["n/a n/a"],"affected":[{"vendor":"n/a","product":"n/a","versions":[{"version":"n/a","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://blog.inhq.net/posts/oled-side-channel-status-summary/"],"weaknesses":[],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T19:45:41.458Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2019/18xxx/CVE-2019-18673.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.1","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2019-18673","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2019-11-02T16:25:42.000Z","dateUpdated":"2024-08-05T01:54:14.606Z","assignerShortName":"mitre","assignerOrgId":"8254265b-2729-46b6-b9e3-3dfca2d5bfca","dateReserved":"2019-11-02T00:00:00.000Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"On SHIFT BitBox02 devices, a side channel for the row-based OLED display was found.
