{"id":"CVE-2019-1849","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Cisco IOS XR Software BGP MPLS-Based EVPN Denial of Service Vulnerability","description":"A vulnerability in the Border Gateway Patrol (BGP) Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based Ethernet VPN (EVPN) implementation of Cisco IOS XR Software could allow an unauthenticated, adjacent attacker to trigger a denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device. The vulnerability is due to a logic error that occurs when the affected software processes specific EVPN routing information. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by injecting malicious traffic patterns into the targeted EVPN network. A successful exploit could result in a crash of the l2vpn_mgr process on Provider Edge (PE) device members of the same EVPN instance (EVI). On each of the affected devices, a crash could lead to system instability and the inability to process or forward traffic through the device, resulting in a DoS condition that would require manual intervention to restore normal operating conditions.","publishedAt":"2019-05-16T01:20:41.653Z","updatedAt":"2024-11-21T19:23:53.261Z","severity":{"score":7.4,"label":"High","version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:A/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:N/A:H","source":"cisco"},"assigner":"cisco","products":["Cisco Cisco IOS XR Software"],"affected":[{"vendor":"Cisco","product":"Cisco IOS XR Software","versions":[{"version":"unspecified","status":"affected","lessThan":"n/a","versionType":"custom"}]}],"references":["https://tools.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-20190515-iosxr-evpn-dos","http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/108342"],"weaknesses":["CWE-754"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T19:45:46.792Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2019/1xxx/CVE-2019-1849.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.1","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2019-1849","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2019-05-16T01:20:41.653Z","dateUpdated":"2024-11-21T19:23:53.261Z","assignerShortName":"cisco","assignerOrgId":"d1c1063e-7a18-46af-9102-31f8928bc633","dateReserved":"2018-12-06T00:00:00.000Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Cisco IOS XR Software BGP MPLS-Based EVPN Denial of Service Vulnerability","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"A vulnerability in the Border Gateway Patrol (BGP) Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based Ethernet VPN (EVPN) implementation of Cisco IOS XR Software could allow an unauthenticated, adjacent attacker to trigger a denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device.
