{"id":"CVE-2019-15989","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Cisco IOS XR Software Border Gateway Protocol Attribute Denial of Service Vulnerability","description":"A vulnerability in the implementation of the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) functionality in Cisco IOS XR Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition. The vulnerability is due to incorrect processing of a BGP update message that contains a specific BGP attribute. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending BGP update messages that include a specific, malformed attribute to be processed by an affected system. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the BGP process to restart unexpectedly, resulting in a DoS condition. The Cisco implementation of BGP accepts incoming BGP traffic only from explicitly defined peers. To exploit this vulnerability, the malicious BGP update message would need to come from a configured, valid BGP peer or would need to be injected by the attacker into the victim’s BGP network on an existing, valid TCP connection to a BGP peer.","publishedAt":"2020-01-26T04:30:38.252Z","updatedAt":"2024-11-15T17:46:50.977Z","severity":{"score":8.6,"label":"High","version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:N/A:H","source":"cisco"},"assigner":"cisco","products":["Cisco Cisco IOS XR Software"],"affected":[{"vendor":"Cisco","product":"Cisco IOS XR Software","versions":[{"version":"unspecified","status":"affected","lessThan":"n/a","versionType":"custom"}]}],"references":["https://tools.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-20200122-ios-xr-bgp-dos"],"weaknesses":["CWE-754"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T19:45:33.607Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2019/15xxx/CVE-2019-15989.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.1","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2019-15989","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2020-01-26T04:30:38.252Z","dateUpdated":"2024-11-15T17:46:50.977Z","assignerShortName":"cisco","assignerOrgId":"d1c1063e-7a18-46af-9102-31f8928bc633","dateReserved":"2019-09-06T00:00:00.000Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Cisco IOS XR Software Border Gateway Protocol Attribute Denial of Service Vulnerability","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"A vulnerability in the implementation of the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) functionality in Cisco IOS XR Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition.
