{"id":"CVE-2018-15369","state":"PUBLISHED","title":"Cisco IOS and IOS XE Software TACACS+ Client Denial of Service Vulnerability","description":"A vulnerability in the TACACS+ client subsystem of Cisco IOS Software and Cisco IOS XE Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause an affected device to reload, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition. The vulnerability is due to improper handling of crafted TACACS+ response packets by the affected software. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by injecting a crafted TACACS+ packet into an existing TACACS+ session between an affected device and a TACACS+ server or by impersonating a known, valid TACACS+ server and sending a crafted TACACS+ packet to an affected device when establishing a connection to the device. To exploit this vulnerability by using either method, the attacker must know the shared TACACS+ secret and the crafted packet must be sent in response to a TACACS+ request from a TACACS+ client. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the affected device to reload, resulting in a DoS condition.","publishedAt":"2018-10-05T14:00:00.000Z","updatedAt":"2024-11-26T14:36:25.494Z","severity":null,"assigner":"cisco","products":["Cisco Cisco IOS Software"],"affected":[{"vendor":"Cisco","product":"Cisco IOS Software","versions":[{"version":"n/a","status":"affected"}]}],"references":["https://tools.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-20180926-tacplus","http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/105426"],"weaknesses":["CWE-20"],"ingestedAt":"2026-10-29T19:44:22.805Z","source":{"repository":"CVEProject/cvelistV5","path":"cves/2018/15xxx/CVE-2018-15369.json","commit":"556c9d3a8cd17e218bb8e452ba7cd619a384ff47"},"raw":{"dataType":"CVE_RECORD","dataVersion":"5.1","cveMetadata":{"cveId":"CVE-2018-15369","state":"PUBLISHED","datePublished":"2018-10-05T14:00:00.000Z","dateUpdated":"2024-11-26T14:36:25.494Z","assignerShortName":"cisco","assignerOrgId":"d1c1063e-7a18-46af-9102-31f8928bc633","dateReserved":"2018-08-17T00:00:00.000Z"},"containers":{"cna":{"title":"Cisco IOS and IOS XE Software TACACS+ Client Denial of Service Vulnerability","descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"A vulnerability in the TACACS+ client subsystem of Cisco IOS Software and Cisco IOS XE Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause an affected device to reload, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition.
